"Yeah, we’re down 1-2 but there’s nobody on this team (that thinks), definitely not myself that thinks we’re not going to win the series," [Mo Williams] said. "Yeah, it’s going to be tough. We know that. We get this game tomorrow and we go home, we have home court advantage. We don’t see ourselves losing two-out-of-three at home."

Especially with the performance he’s turned in so far this series.

That doesn't even include this current quote

I was curious what he has to say ABOUT THIS. Especially after what you linked to above in the comment above this one Stan. Mo, after the game, and frustrated, is one thing. But, a day later? Dude, grow up.

But, I would say the same thing to Dwight Howard who keeps talking about dis-respect on his own blog. Hell, if Henry Abbott hadn’t linked to it, I probably wouldn’t have read it. It was pretty comical in it’s own right.

I agree with Kelly Dwyer: Each side should shut the fuck up already and get down with the hoop. Histrionics aside, this series has been an incredible one to watch.

This probably sounds like a biased comment but ..

.. Dwight’s issue with the media is a bit more valid than Mo spouting his mouth off.

Turk from "Fear The Sword" here

I agree with Dwyer as well, pookey. I’m not a big fan of Mo running his mouth here, especially when he’s shooting 15% under his season averages. That said, I think we’ve still got a good series to go.

Also, wanted to let you guys know you have a great site going here. Best of luck.

What I'm tired of Turk is

Commenting on this site, and seeing anywhere of 300-500 comments about the refs out of 1500 a night where effort and intelligence play the biggest part of the game.

And, it’s not just here at 3QC. I see it constantly at StR during the season where fans there would constantly complain about refs. I wish more fans would just back off that tact. I really would.

Fans of the NBA complain more about the officiating than any sport, and it’s largely because of players like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard, Paul Pierce, etc etc etc. It’s gotta stop!

To be honest, I think things have gotten better. You can’t tell me that the refs weren’t blatantly helping out the Bulls in ‘98, or the Lakers during their title runs a few years later. You can’t. You can say maybe it wasn’t because the league told them to — and I have no specific reason to believe that the league did so. But I don’t think anyone could watch those games and escape the conclusion that the calls were going consistently in the favor of the teams that ended up winning.

But to be honest, I haven’t seen anything near that magnitude in the last five or six years. I’ve seen stars get calls; I’ve seen the home team get calls. I’ve seen some games that were just badly officiated in general. But I don’t believe I’ve seen a case where the refs were consistently slanted toward one team. And that makes sense, given how badly the Lakers situation damaged the league’s credibility in the early 2000s. Once it became common even among casual fans to suggest that the league was slanting the series, I am willing to bet the NBA has taken great pains to keep their refs from even doing anything that could give anyone the impression that might be the case.

I mean, I think people would complain about calls anyway, just like baseball fans complain about umpires, or football fans argue about penalties. But that’s a bit different — you rarely if ever see a baseball fan saying, “Bud Selig told the umpires to give the Yankees an extra inch on the strike zone”, or whatever.

Yeah, and we broke your damn shot clock too.

SVG Quote of the year...

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, meanwhile, bristled at the suggestion that Johnson’s blow to the face of Williams was anything more than inadvertent. He said it’s the Cavs who are trying to win by bending the rules.

“I’m upset at the number of times they are flopping,” Van Gundy said. “Mo Williams and Ben Wallace are falling down more than a baby just learning to walk.”

by Boney on May 25, 2009 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

That's one of the funniest coaches comments I've ever heard

Well, besides the obvious funny stuff that always gets linked to. Phil Jackson’s comments during playoff time (like calling Sacramento a cowtown—thanks Phil!), or Jim Mora’s saying "Playoffs? Playoffs? I just wanna win a game!

Ah, SVG, the quote maestro.

this quote cracks me up

“There is nothing personal at all,” Johnson said. “That play in Cleveland, he tried to steal the ball and it’s my job to get open. I don’t remember elbowing him at all. I just remember falling on the old people in the front row. But, it’s nothing personal.”

by RussL on May 26, 2009 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Williams must be a little confused

this isn’t like the all-star game where you whine and complain and then after few people get injured you finally get what you want. You have to earn it in the NBA Playoffs…and it’s been primarily his failure to be a legitimate second option that’s the reason his team is down 2-1.

by Lee for three on May 25, 2009 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

I understand that he’s confident in his team, but Mo has been a little too out-spoken to the media.

Both of those teams fans are certain that their player is better, and the rest of their league claims ‘disrespect’ and such.

As for me, I try not to let Nike control my thoughts:)

No disrespect at all — he’s definitely top-5. And you can argue that he’s better than Dwight, or Chris Paul, if only because that’s such an impossible comparison to make. But I think you can compare him fairly directly to Wade, and Wade is better right now. And they’re all at least a couple paces behind LeBron.

Yeah, and we broke your damn shot clock too.

by 3.3seconds on May 26, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Kobe is top five, sure.

.. but statistically, it’s LeBron/Wade/CP3 .. you can switch Wade or CP3, then it’s Dwight/Kobe, again, you can switch Dwight/Kobe. But that’s the top five, in that basic order.

The Cavs haven't figured out how to play the Magic

For the season, the Cavs shot 46.8%. In the three regular-season games against Orlando, they shot a combined 41.6%. Their three-point shooting did improve from 39.3% to 43.4%, but their scoring average dropped from 100.3 to 90.7. Their bad shooting (44.0% overall, 25.7% from 3) in the playoff series isn’t really a fluke – it’s a consistent problem they have playing against Orlando.

I don't think it's even that.

I get what he’s trying to say, but again, Cleveland had a chance to win the game in Game 1. Mo just missed the shot (which was an incredible attempt, btw). I can’t buy that argument, personally.

Fair enough.

But from a Cavs perspective it’s hard to stomach not being up 2-0 after the first two games with those big leads. The Cavs played much better first halves and the Magic played much better second halves. To say the Magic could be up 3-0 except for one shot is simplifying things a bit. Like I said above, if rashard’s 3 ball rattles out (which happens over 50% of the time even to great shooters) in game 1, the Cavs win that game (likely, with free throws).

Really not trying to be a dick here, it just seems the most fans (myself included) only look at the “bad breaks” their team gets and not the fortunate ones.

by erivera7 on May 26, 2009 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

That's very true

I think part of the issue is that each team had one of the first two games break their way – in Game 1, the Magic scored and the Cavs weren’t able to respond. In Game 2, the Magic scored and the Cavs did respond. Both teams can say that they’d be better off if the other team hadn’t gotten lucky. I think Cleveland was slightly luckier – Lewis is a 40% 3PT shooter, while James is a 34% 3PT shooter, but both teams won games they probably shouldn’t have (although from 3 Lewis has been shooting 60% against CLE, while LBJ’s at 29.4% against ORL). Basically, the Magic could be up 3-0 without James’ miracle, the Cavs could be up 2-1 without Rashard hitting his shot. Just as likely, though, would have been Rashard and James both missing, in which case it’s still 2-1 Orlando.
