It shows Dwights head is not in the game

Does a block win you the game right there? No. Let LeBron shoot, and go back down and make your FT’s. Simple; peezy, yep n eazy.

If Dwight trys to block that in the 2nd qtr

I applaud it. When the game is in hand, why? That’s what I don’t understand. The name of the game is to win. With 35 secs left and your’e up 8, blocking that shot won’t win you the game.

it doesn’t make a difference, but if Dwight doesn’t learn that distinction, Orlando is going to have a tough time winning a championship.

If he makes it its a 2 possesion game, and looks like an idiot for not trying.

If he had no shot of blocking the ball, then, ya i’d say it was a dumb play, but it was such an easy swat that no one would pass it up.

The most surprising thing about Dwight's game is his 9 boards

That’s very low, but given how little time he was on the floor, it’s not too surprising. I’m shocked he had 24 pts.

You could argue that Orlando did as well

Dwight’s mental game was not in full force tonight. Dwight had the type of dominance that comes with a 60 pt game and 30 boards. Seriously TGS.

I agree

But, Orlando should have won this game going away with how dominating Dwight was. This is the hardest part of Dwight’s development for him I think. Can he make that next step. He’s pretty damn incredible already, and he’s short in a few area’s now. In my opinion, he’s just a taller LeBron James with just as much untapped potential.

This comes back to the superstar point

Is Dwight a superstar? Yeah, he is. Is he the true complete franchise player that Kobe Bryant or LeBron James is? Not yet, no. It’s not the tech’s by themselves. It’s just how he conducts himself sometimes. A dominant Dwight Howard and the Magic win this game by 15.

Dwight is a little immature.

That’s fair to say, but he’ll learn.

I don’t think that should be an indictment on whether or not people should consider Howard as a complete franchise player. Executives have been asked around the league, who would you build a team around?

A number would say LeBron, a number would say Dwight, etc.

Actually it's great for Orlando that Dwight is there

And it’s equally great for Cleveland LeBron is there. So in a way, there is no wrong answer, and a lot of right one’s.

One of the unsaid subplot’s of this NBA playoffs is how close 4 or 5 teams are to winning a championship, and how very difficult it is to distinguish one from another right now.

That’s something I think we’ll see a lot more of if the series remain as tight as we all expect them to be.

Absolutely

I’m not holding it against Dwight. It’s an observation that Dwight could learn to improve. Dwight loves to play and that much is obvious. With his physical gifts, just the love of the game alone makes him such a valuable player to have.

But, his mental game, ER, it needs to improve for the Magic to be that deadeye contender they have the potential to be. As is, they’re damn good now. And they’re a legit contender; not a team that got there cuz Boston was hurt, and Philly can’t play offense in the half court etc, etc etc.

You know why I keep bringing it up?

Because it’s so obvious every single game. Dwight needs to improve on his footwork and refine his post moves still, but the natural stuff is already there. He’s going to have to learn to deal with being hit inside sometimes. That’s part of being a dominant NBA player.

Dwight was Huge. Half those fouls weren't fouls.

Stepped up and made some big free throws too. I don’t understand why if they can go to a replay to check on the 3point line why can’t they change a bad call when it’s obvious to the world/ ie. Dwight’s block on Lebron. It’s ridiculous there looking right at it on the replay.

David Stern has been pushing for minority ownership of a team in the NBA, and that’s partly why this partnership happened. It’s not going to impact LeBron greatly except it’s likely to increase his exposure in China.

Just got home but I was able to listen to the game on the radio

Sounded like Alston finally showed up tonight and Pietrus was huge off the bench. Howard had a pretty good game for limited minutes Orlando just played a sound overall game…never really broke it open, but just applied constant pressure the whole game.

And can the media please stop putting Mo Williams in the same sentence as Scottie Pippen. Pippen was one of the greatest 50 players of all-time and Williams is barely in the top 50 players in the league right now.

Alston was big in getting usa going early...he was attacking the rim aggrresively.....Pietrus was big late..

…driving the lane on offense, making Ft’s and helping cut off the lane to Lebron making him chose to shoot jumpers…which will always be the best case scenario for the Magic

Just a couple quick questions from stuff I missed

I basically heard what turned out to be AJ’s flagrant foul. They hand’t called a flagrant when they got into the commecial break. I stepped away from the computer, came back a minute or two after it picked up and heard the flagrant was called. So:

Did AJ get ejected? He didn’t play again after that, but I know when Skip slapped House, he wasn’t ejected but Stan sat him the rest of the way anyway.

Did they review it and then assess the flagrant, because that’s only a secondary review (they can only review something like that if they are also reviewing something else). So I missed something there and I was just wondering how that sequence went down.

by Lee for three on May 25, 2009 12:27 AM EDT reply actions

No, he didn't get ejected.

It was an inadvertent elbow that caught Williams in the eye.

Well Williams also claimed that they are giving the Magic "too much respect"

this coming from a guy who has completely disappeared when his team has needed him the most. But I don’t know if that’s entirely his fault…Cleveland brought him in to be the second option when he is at best a borderline second-third option player

Another win for the hoodie...

The lucky post season hoodie has been worn for:

Game 6 in Orlando
Game 7 in Boston
Game 1 in Cleveland

I was in Boston at a baseball game in 90 degree weather for Game 2 in Cleveland so I was unable to wear the hoodie — I also wanted to test if it was really legit and we lost.

Game 3 in Orlando, watched it in a house, very hot. Didn’t put on the hoodie until halftime, never took it off in the second half and we won.

Hoodie postseason record, 3-0.

The question remains, it is a must-win hoodie, I don’t know if I should continue to wear it in non must-win games as it may wear out it’s lucky luster.

Do I wear it for game 4 in Orlando? Yay or Nay?

I'm sure you guys are already aware, but Dwight has 5 technicals.

2 more technicals in the post-season and he’s suspended a game. This is ridiculous that he can’t get his temper under control. If he ends up getting suspended in the ECF or Finals because he wants to mouth off to the referees or lose his cool with the defenders, he’s going to lose A LOT of respect.

From Henry at Truehoop:

Cavalier Coach Mike Brown did something pretty slick in the second quarter: Just when Stan Van Gundy was resting the Magic regulars, Brown inserted LeBron James. And the Cavaliers ripped off an 11-0 run. It was the only stretch of the game when Cleveland clearly outclassed Orlando. Hedo Turkoglu’s agent (he’ll be a free agent soon!) would like to point out that the run started when Turkoglu was benched, and ended only when he returned. That’s a big part of the reason why, despite shooting 1-11 from the floor with three turnovers, Turkoglu ended the game an impressive +20, to go with his 11-12 from the free throw line, 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

I actually missed that part of the game, but if it’s accurate, that’s surprising and impressive. When I watched, I thought Turk was having a miserable game, and making some poor decisions. But from that quote, it sounds like he’s one of the rare players that can control a game without putting up big offensive numbers.

Did Dwight have McDonald’s before the game again tonight?

I’ve said it and I’ll say it again, and again: The Magic are on the short end of the WORST officiating I’ve ever seen; and I have been following Basketball for over 40 years. Since this has been going on for the past TEN games, there is NO excuse; it can only be only two explanations: It’s either, blatant incompetence, or even worse; downright game tampering!

EVERY camera angle SHOWED CLEARLY Howard make a squeaky clean BLOCK on James 3-point shot. his hand being more than 4 inches from ANY part of his body!

As for the rest of the game; the commentators from TNT said that the Cavs had “allowed” Alston to score at ease and he made up for Turk’s points. First, the Cavs don’t “GIVE” us NOTHING… ok?

Second, let them TRY to focus on Alston… PLEASE, MAKE MY DAY! What… they’re going to stop Howard, Turk, Lewis AND Alston? Try it… PLEASE, try it: Courtney Lee will then score 25!

Besides… WHO’s going to carry the scoring load for the Cavs, besides James? Mo Williams is scoring his 15 to 20 points per game. That’s IT; he CAN’T do NOTHING more! As for the REST; they belong in ANY other teams’ BENCH! They can’t do NOTHING either.

Let LeBron score his 40 points, grab 6 rebounds and dish out 7 assists: The Train has left the station, and there’s NOTHING he can do about it!

Can't say Orlando was on the worse end of officiating when the team earned 16 more FT attempts.

Granted, Cleveland hacking on Dwight Howard on purpose to put him on the free-throw line skews that stat, but I think the refereeing goes both ways. Can’t just pinpoint the advantage to either team tonight.
