Jameer Nelson says HE MAY suit up for the NBA finals should the Magic advance

Jameer just confirmed live on NBA TV's pregame show, should the Magic advance to the NBA Finals, he will seriously consider suiting up for the Finals.  And yes, he was 100% serious, wow.  Yes I have to copy this again:

Because he's not ready to play.

Mmm, i may be in minority,

but i’d rather he rested, and got better for next year.

who knows how effective he will be injured.

That's my initial reaction as well.

As much as I love Jameer, his return could do more harm than good!

Yeah… don’t want a Grant Hill situation happening here. The doctors had better be damn sure there’s no risk of aggravating the injury…

Yeah, and we broke your damn shot clock too.

Has he had his surgery yet?

This sounds like a mistake to me. Much as I love Jameer, he needs to protect his (and the Magic’s) future.

by farfromfl on May 21, 2009 12:17 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He had the surgery about under two weeks after the last Dallas game.

It s a definite possibility. The Magic have to beat Cleveland first, which is a huge if. But if they do esp. after tonights win, and play in the Finals with Nelson Id say the Magic win the whole thing this year. Id have to see how he shoots thru the first couple games, but if its 40%-ish atleast (Or more around his actual 50+FG% before injury 2 months-ish ago) itll be too huge. His decisions with the ball were crazy good too, and the whole Nelson back for the rest of the Magic players is going to fuel thier emotions to play even better.

Awesome, Thanks!

My kingdom to the man who can tell us if Jameer is actually in basketball shape right now.

Maybe Ben can ask him.

I’m sure he’ll be there for Game 3 and Game 4 in Orlando.

Great New!

Oh boy!

Best news… after the victory tonight, of course.

Hope the Magic doctors clear him, though. It’s VERY important he does not compromise his FUTURE for a series run.

as much as "if it ain't broke don't fix it" makes sense....

Having Nelson back, even if its in a limited role, could give the team a massive boost… Even if its just a mental boost, it could be huge.

Put me in the 'just come back next year' camp, for now.

Dr. James Andrews took care of Jameer, but I don’t want to take any chances if I’m Orlando. Not after the Grant Hill saga that spanned multiple seasons. No way. Let Nelson rest .. it’s not worth it in the big picture.

True, but there is a possibility that it's 100% corrected.

After a surgery like this, there may be no difference in 2 months post surgery compared to 6 months post surgery. If he’s been rehabbing it this whole time, he may be good to go. With all that aside, the question becomes, how rusty will he be?

I'm not doubting it's not 100% corrected. I'm actually not concerned about the injury, per se.

.. but my concern, which is what you just alluded to, is game shape, rust, stamina, etc.

I hear ya, but what we don't know is how he's been training.

Has he been running with the team? Most people having “season-ending” surgery, probably would just call it a wrap, slack off, chill, not participate with drills. However, I don’t know, I thought I remember hearing last month or a few weeks ago that he’s actually been training. Has he been shooting, running, etc? We don’t know, but when asked the question last night, we sort of had this, ‘I know more than I’m telling’ grin on his face when they were pressing him about it. Like someone above alluded to, can you imagine the lift it’d give to these guys mentally?

I'm not denying the boost it'd give the team.

.. and I already stated my concerns, so no need to regurgitate ’em.

Like I said above, maybe Ben can ask Jameer if he’s been working out and what not. I’d ask him myself, but I’m in not Orlando yet. Don’t get me wrong, I’m curious myself.

Hmmmmmmm….off the bench? I dont see how this team getting to the finals then throwing a rusty PG in the starting lineup would help

by ohc on May 21, 2009 5:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He wouldn't start, theoretically speaking.
