Scoreboard Watching: May 2nd, 2009
You don't really need me to tell you to watch this game, and I know that. This series has seen 106 lead changes and 65 ties--not to mention 7 overtimes--which equates to roughly a lead change or tie once every two minutes. Unreal. Tonight's winner faces the Orlando Magic in the Conference Semifinals, which begin Monday. This post is an open thread. Let 'er rip in the comments.

It's become obvious that the NBA prefers the Celtics
Which is why the Bulls must, and will, win.

it's obvious that the champions are everywhere preffered.
which is why this series is tied at 3. otherwise,we would play bulls next week.
but we just may play them anyway… they proved capability of winning in boston.
keep it up,bulls!!!
we need you.

It's not that the Celtics are preferred ..
.. it’s a testament to how inconsistent the NBA is in handling penalties. That’s not really an indictment on Boston as it is on the league. The C’s have just been coincidentally involved in those instances.

Well, I threw $5 on Rashard's horse for the sole fact that he had a monster game.
And if ‘Join in the Dance’ were to win, It payouts out $250, LOL, long shot. I wonder how much he put down, he said he was making a wager.

Call me crazy
but I’m rooting for the Celtics. If Courtney Lee misses the entire second round, then we really don’t have anyone who can contain Rose. The Celtics have shown this series without KG they are extremely beatable. Plus it would be nice to be the one to send the defending champs home.
by Lee for three on May 2, 2009 12:27 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think we would be fine with either team,
and the Bulls are assuredly beatable with or without C-Lee. The kids solid but I have to agree with Kelly Dwyer from Ball Don’t Lie when he said that the kid is great, but it seems like everyone has really overvalued him because he was viewed as “underrated” for the first half of the season. The kids good, but not (yet) some necessary, awesome player.

The Magic would be fine more so with the Bulls than the Celtics.
That’s obvious. Rose is good but he’s not great .. yet.

rose?! and how about allen?
after all,how about homecourt advantage?
season games versus bulls and celts?
well,on my behalf,i call you crazy. ;)

Allen has been amazing
But you need to have the defender commit to him…the fact that he’s had wide open shots in clutch situations is a testament to how bad of a coach Del Negro is. And the fact is, if we can’t beat the Celticis without Garnett, then we wouldn’t have beaten Cleveland or LA anyway.
Also, we beat Boston without Garnett so I look more at that game than the one’s with him. Plus the Bulls are playing their best basketball of the year right now.
Personally I have confidence we’ll beat both teams…but there will be something more vindicating about beating the Celtics than beating the Bulls.
by Lee for three on May 2, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
There will be more vindication with the Magic beating the Celtics. That's true.
.. whoever the opponent is, Orlando will have a great shot at beating either team. My main concern with C. Lee out is more in reference to Ray Allen than it is to Derrick Rose. This is due to the fact Allen makes his living out in the perimeter, which makes Dwight Howard’s impact a moot point. The same can’t be said about Rose, who makes his living in the paint .. thus inviting the D12 factor.

You're crazy.
Hah .. Courtney Lee will be back at some point in the second round. When, I don’t know but rest assured C. Lee will be back at some point. As for the concern that there will be no one to contain Rose, sure there is .. his name? Dwight Howard. Even though Alston will probably get burned on defense, Howard will be able to deter Rose from penetrating into the lane and scoring at will.
.. and even if Rose DOES go off against the Bulls, the Magic are the superior team so it really makes no difference. Orlando is a better defensive team, at this point (this fact is exacerbated with the KG injury), to Boston so Chicago isn’t going to be able to torch their opponent as easily on offense.

Although the Bulls are playing GREAT ball, probably beyond anyone's expectations . . .
They are still the MUCH easier path for the Magic and I don’t think it’s even close.
Not to mention the difference in home court advantage that we’d have.
I’m not saying the Bulls would be a cakewalk, just that the Celts would be WAY more dangerous.
by blue-blood on May 2, 2009 1:10 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The Celtics wouldn't be "way" more dangerous .. they'd just be dangerous vis-a-vis to the Bulls.

My predictions:
We beat Bulls in 5, we beat Celtics in 6. Let’s get it Magic.

I would agree . . .
Provided the same Magic team that closed out the Sixers shows up to play.
by blue-blood on May 2, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
To be honest, even the first 5 games of half-assed Magic that played the Sixers
would have their way with the Bulls. The Sixers matched up really well, ran their asses off and were shooting unconscious from the perimeter. If I remember correctly, the Bulls have one of the worst perimeter defense in the NBA, I believe the Magic will romp them easily.

Yeah, the Magic wouldn't have any difficult with the Bulls.
I could see Chicago taking the series to 6, at the most, but that’s it.
Boston is going to be tricky because of the fact that with C. Lee out (for the time being), Ray Allen has a chance to go nova against Orlando. The Celtics are indeed worse defensively (more so with KG out) so it’s IMPERATIVE that the Magic punish the C’s on offense. I can’t stress that enough.
SVG needs to pick & roll Dwight Howard to death, because that’s been the most effective strategy against Kendrick Perkins. I know people want Rashard Lewis to post up more but he can’t do that against the Celtics .. not with Glen Davis at the 4. Besides, with Boston, Lewis is more apt to spread the floor and let Howard do his thing in the paint. To me, those are the main keys to the Magic exploiting the Celtics on offense. Dribble penetration, pick & rolls .. that’s been the formula for success.
With Chicago, yeah, you can go ahead and post up Rashard on the blow block when you consider he can take on both Noah & Ty Thomas down in the paint.

Rashard Lewis & Tyrus Thomas would be an amazing matchup in that series with the offensive player should be capable of dominating their defender.

Thomas dominate Lewis? (not sure if that's what your inferring)
.. it wouldn’t go both ways. Rashard would go to school on Tyrus.

Bulls only scored 2 points in the final 8 minutes of the second quarter
…and only made one field goal the final 11 minutes of the second quarter as Boston went on a 29-6 run to close the quarter.
Bulls have dug a huge hole for themselves to come out of.

Big shot by Gordon to cut the lead to 7 to end the 3rd.
