Boston Celtics 92, Orlando Magic 88
In a wild finish, the Boston Celtics rallied from a 14-point deficit with 8:48 to play to stun the visiting Orlando Magic, 92-88, and to take a commanding 3-2 lead in their second-round playoff series. Boston went on a 29-11 run from there to send the Magic back to Orlando unhappy.
| Team | Pace | Efficiency | eFG% | FT Rate | OReb% | TO Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Magic | 84 | 105.0 | 48.8% | 12.5 | 20.5 | 11.9 |
| Celtics | 109.5 | 45.5% | 26.9 | 26.2 | 9.5 |
Perhaps my choice of the word "stunning" in the opening paragraph overstates the result of the game. The narrative around the Magic since March, when Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O'Neal called coach Stan Van Gundy a "master of panic," has been that they're a weak-hearted team that simply cannot finish games. The media perpetuated this story, as is their job, but it was mostly untrue: Orlando went 52-1 in the regular season when leading with 5 minutes to go in a game. But after a jaw-dropping, 18-point comeback by the inferior Philadelphia 76ers in the very first game of these playoffs, the perception of the Magic as weak resurfaced. Philadelphia almost rallied to win the second game of that series, too. Last week, the Celtics rallied from a 28-point deficit to nearly win. Orlando has indeed had trouble closing teams out of late, which is why the outcome of this game--especially given the opponent, the resilient, legendary, defending champion Boston Celtics--won't shock too many people.
Understand that the Magic outplayed the Celtics for the game's first 40 minutes. Boston's offensive execution left a lot to be desired, while Orlando (mostly) played a controlled game and executed its offense. Henry Abbott is right when he notes that Rafer Alston's inexplicable hot streak--he went 6-of-15 in the game, which is "hot" for him--made the Magic's offense look better than it really was, since he really took some bad shots. But I appreciated Rashard Lewis driving to the basket consistently (and finishing once there), and in general the team's ball movement was crisp. But then the 4th quarter came around, as it was bound to. And that's when everything went to pot for Orlando.
Everyone in the TD Banknorth Garden, and everyone watching the game at home, knew that the Celtics had a run left in them, even as poorly as they played up to then. What was in question was the Magic's ability to hold the lead. Admittedly, I figured they would once Anthony Johnson connected with Mickael Pietrus on an uncontested alley-oop dunk with 8:48 to play. Orlando led by 14. These numbers should sound familiar to you.
From that point on, Boston had 15 possessions. It scored on 13 of them. The Magic could not get a stop when it counted most, a fact made doubly fatal due to their suddenly stagnant offense. Orlando went without a field goal for the last 5:39 of the game, shooting 3-of-4 from the line in that span for its only points. Hedo Turkoglu had, to that point, orchestrated four consecutive Orlando baskets with smart decisions and on-target passes. From then on.... nothing for the Magic. Alston and Turkoglu missed layups--both players probably deserved foul calls, but that's another matter entirely--while Lewis decided to shoot from the perimeter, missing badly on most of his attempts. He also threw an errant, ill-advised entry pass to Dwight Howard which Ray Allen deflected, forcing Alston to heave a deep three-pointer as the shot-clock expired. What the Magic did offensively in the game's final 6 minutes is not what they had done during its first 42, in which they were clearly the better team. Again, Van Gundy's coaching will come into question.
Regarding the Celtics' comeback: Orlando can, I think, live with Stephon Marbury and Glen Davis drilling long jumpers. Better them than, say, Paul Pierce or Ray Allen. Give Marbury credit for coming up big--12 fourth-period points--when it mattered most, but also acknowledge that he is the guy Orlando wants taking long jumpers. The fact that he made them, and arguably won the Celtics the game, is what hurts.
There's plenty of room to play "what if?" tonight. What if the officials corrected the error on a three-point shot Ray Allen made which should have only counted for two? What if Turkoglu and Alston get the benefit of the whistle on their respective missed layups in the fourth period? What if one of Marbury's jumpers rims out instead of catching all bottom? What if the Magic are able to secure a defensive rebound with a minute left in the game, after Boston missed two straight shots yet managed to hold possession for 52 seconds due to its offensive rebounds? Ultimately, the answers to these questions are immaterial. Orlando now faces the daunting task of having to win its next two games, the last of which will be played here in Boston, if necessary.
Kudos to Boston for a remarkable comeback. Kudos to Lewis for a well-played game. Kudos to Turkoglu for making good decisions. Kudos to Howard for holding his own on the glass, and kudos to Kendrick Perkins for holding Howard to 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Great game, especially for liberated fans with no real rooting interest.
Boston can close out the series Thursday night in Game 6 at Amway Arena, while Orlando will fight to keep its season alive. I'll be in attendance as a credentialed member of the media, so there's at least that to look forward to.

Tougher to swallow
This one is much tougher to swallow then Game Four. I could live with what happened in Game Four. That was a good effort on a bad night and the Magic gave up the shot they wanted to give up. But blowing that kind of lead really stings and I am sure the players feel worse.
Game Six is not a foregone conclusion, but if they do not win the first six minutes, their confidence could really be shaken.
I think this is a resilient group. They lack the killer instinct to win, but they are not going to roll over and die on Thursday, especially at home. But the struggles in this postseason have shown a lot of holes that Otis Smith has to fill this summer.

I think if Jameer was running point rather than Alston the Magic would’ve finished these games. Next season they should be a force to be reckoned with.

I agree...that's the thing about Orlando
talent wise I think they have the roster that can win it all. They just can’t close out games. It’s almost all mental and I don’t know how you address that.
I give Boston credit for the comeback but the fact is this was another matter of Orlando finding a way to lose. I don’t care how good the opposing defense is…five and a half minutes without a bucket falls on the players for not executing and the coach for not figuring out a way to get an easy bucket.

Yeah, the number of write-ups I've read tonight talking about great defense for Boston in the 4th ..
.. is wrong. Yeah, the Celtics should get credit defensively but Orlando is culpable as well.

I just saw Howard saying it's tough to win when your best post player only gets 10 shots
If those shots are forced/rushed and have no chance of going in, then why keep taking them?

SVG has to run some plays to get Howard the ball in the post for better looks. He hits a couple and maybe he gets on a role. Your best player should NEVER be held to only 10 shots.

Classy write-up Ben.
What stings me the most is the fact they played exactly how the experts “expected” them to play all year, not how they actually played. Looks like we are in for another full season of doubt and misconception.
This was the chance for the Magic to come out and show the world who they were. Unfortunately, they did just that tonight,

The only thing this game did was highlight how much we miss Jameer Nelson
Floor leader, finisher, good defender, heart and hustle….Someone who can bring that killer instinct to this team rather than let them try to sit on a 10 point lead with 5 minutes left hoping not to lose rather than playing to win. This team has the talent, they just play with no heart and no killer instinct.
Yeah, his absence has been magnified during the playoffs.

Totally.
“no heart and no killer instinct” is exactly right. The team just rolls over and takes whatever the league, Boston, the refs etc throw at them. The players talk about being strong and keeping belief but they don’t show it on the court where it matters.

Whom do I crop out: Jameer Nelson or Adonal Foyle? Only had room for one…
I'm still sick to my stomach over this loss
this is the first time since the game ended I’ve ventured on to any sports site. If this Magic team had even an ounce of composure, mental toughness, poise, whatever you want to call it, we’d be in the ECF right now.
How do you not make a single shot for the last 5:30 of the game. I’m still stunned as to how this game turned out. I would have rather have lost by 40 like the Rockets did.
Yep. Just another case of the Magic beating the Magic.

I said it before the game, and I'll say it again.
The only way the Magic can win, it seems, is if they are blowout games. In close games: a) the team apparently petrifies in the end; and b) most of the mistakes the referees make will end up favoring the Celtics.
This is the 4th game this playoffs the Magic has lost that was decided in the final minute.
How lame, if Boston goes against the Cleveland, the Cavs will win the East Finals in 5 games.

Courtney Lee is so much more than a Eddie House-stopper
…He could have been a Marbury stopper, for example. Or even a late game scorer. Van Gundy made some coaching mistakes down the stretch. (Not calling Howard’s number is a tougher call— he looked awful in the post all night. He might have scored more, however, had he received more pick and rolls.)

Lebron has massively disrespected us too
“Even though he didn’t come out and say it, LeBron James insinuated that he hopes the Cavaliers face the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
“I’m a competitor, I thrive on going against the best,” James said. “I love playing against the best you make your answer out of that.”"

He wants revenge
against the Celtics, more than anything else. Also a lot of Cavs fans think that they should have beaten Boston last year and won it all. They figure that their team can sweep Boston or win in 5 games.
Don't understand how you read that as "massive" disrepect.
Drive-by Cavs fan here…….A reporter was trying to bait him into picking who he wanted to play in the ECFs. He wants to play the best and the winner will be the best. I think thats how its supposed to work. How do you read that as disrepect?
I doubt LeBron forgets that beat down. If the Magic advance, I believe you will see a highly motivated Cavs team……just saying.
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
I think what bigaaron was going for
was LeBron’s implication that the Magic aren’t worthy enough to play against his team. He considers Boston to be “the best”, and thus, the Magic are not the best and would be a waste of his time playing against.

1. We hate them.
2. We can beat them without a doubt.
3. The Magic appear to be the better team, talent-wise (too bad they are not playing like it)
3. We are not so confident about beating the Magic.

The final 8 1/2 minutes of the game
…Boston made 10 of their last 15 field goal attempts, including 2 out of 3 from three point range, and made all 7 of their free throw attempts.
It should be noted that the Celtics made all 21 of their free throws in the game.
The Celtics show for the second game in a row they have the heart of a champion… look at how many different guys are coming through for them.
SVG said in his post-game press conference that the players just “stopped playing.” Well, whose fault is that! Shouldn’t Van Gundy have called a time-out at that time to set his players straight?
At the very least, the Magic should have split these last two games, but they lose them both because they can’t come up with defensive stops when they need to nor can they hit the clutch shots when they need to, and in this game especially, several questionable coaching decisions.

SVG did a call a timeout, with roughly 6 minutes to go in the game if I'm not mistaken.
Redick openly admitted it after the game, the team was trying to play “stall ball” and kill the clock. The coach can’t play for the players, that’s on the team to execute down the stretch and continue to play.

When the Magic lose this series, expect SVG to be out of a job. He did a terrible job managing this game. 10 touches for D12? Allowing him to touch the ball when clearly Rashard should have been taking the last free throws? Van Gundy is best coach in Magic history
Van Gundy has done an incredible job with this team. It is foolish to think he will be out of a job for improving on last year’s team. This playoffs has raised some questions on his performance though and he will need to get this team, barring any ridiculous injuries, to the Finals next season.
Honestly, I felt Orlando’s goal this season was to make the conference finals or play a competitive conference semifinal match. I think Orlando has to force this series to Game Seven to complete that goal, but otherwise, looking at the body of work, this has been a successful season.
Hopefully, it is not over yet.

Honestly, I think that’s a serious concern — I think the team’s best chance at winning a title before 2012 is locking into this roster by giving Hedo his extension, but even with that, there’s a good chance this team fails to win a title.
Without any major roster changes for four-five years, and consistent failures to win a title? Yeah, I think Dwight is going to be tempted to leave.
I think it’s a plausible, and frightening, end game for the Magic. It’s something which should be considered.

Doc River’s isn’t out coaching Stan. I think Doc is an extremely mediocre coach.
At the end of the third he told David Allridge “Allen is a shot maker. He’s gonna shoot.” That has nothing to do with x’s and o’s. He rides the talent he has. Remember how BAD Boston was before Allen and Garnett? That is Doc’s coaching skills.

Did SVG tell them to intentionally miss? thats the wrong call with 7 seconds left. So he lost that game for us. Also not taking timeouts in the last 6 min when he watched the lead slip away.
You're wrong.
First, it is the right call when you consider the fact Boston was not missing from the free-throw line. It would have been fruitless to keep putting the Celtics on the line when the team was running out of time.
Second, SVG did call two timeouts while the lead was diminishing.

It looked like no one on Orlando wanted the ball in the last few minutes when the going got tough. They kept passing up open shots until finally someone like Rafer had to take a shot with just a second or two left. But he didn’t want the ball either. What was that heave over the backboard? And Lewis got really nervous, missing badly on a few shots.
I think that while the Celtics were playing poorly during the third quarter, the Magic had a great chance to put their foot on the throat but they missed a whole bunch of shots. The Celtics looked very close to folding, but the Magic couldn’t finish.
Orlando didn't execute down the stretch.
.. instead of continuing to dribble penetrate and attack the basket, the Magic stalled. I don’t think it was a matter of no one on the Magic wanting the ball. The team was just trying to hang on, which didn’t work.

Not only is he the best coach in the Magic’s history (not counting Chuck Daly), but also he is one of the best currently coaching in the NBA. If he goes away… who will the Magic replace him with?

I might be the minority
and might possibly get banned by saying this. But what was the Magic gonna do throwing the ball down to D12? Watch him dance around perkins and get pushing out farther and farther from the rim, then force up an awkward shot that had no chance, then stare at the ref while the Celts grabs the rebound and run the other way? about the only easy basket plays they can call for D12 is the alley oop (which for some reason they don’t use much in the series. I guess Perkins and Davis and Scalabrine all got great verticals).
D12 played so bad that SVG had to pull him after he really did do all that i described in one play, and while he was complaining to the ref, the rebound actually bounced next to his feet, which he didn’t even bother looking at it because he was so busy complaining.
This is the worst poosible match for him
Even worse than Yao Ming in my opinion. Perkins may be mediocre all around, but he has all the tools to stop Dwight Howard. It frustrates fans and it obviously frustrates him.

Put Dwight and Gortat in togeather with the lead...
They cant gaurd both of them. Thats how you protect a lead. Go inside to the big guys. Howard taking 10 shots is not grounds for assessing his game. He should get 20 touches at least
And before I get banned, lemme just get this in.
SVG need to fix the rotations/play calling/deciding who’s gonna be the man on his team. Lewis, by all account, is the man that no one on the Celtics can guard. And he played like it in the first quarter. then we never heard from him again until late in the fourth when he was nice and cooled down and totally forgot how to play. Can we just make Lewis the man and ride him all game long like we did in that Philly game when D12 was out? I mean, is getting easy basket on matchup advantage not part of the game plan?
Lewis needs to be the #1 option, definitely.
.. Rashard was scoring at will last night, until the final quarter. Why? Because he wasn’t getting the ball.

D12+Gortat please!
Up 10 with 5 to go. I think I can live with one less shooter on offense if it means one more rebounder/one more shot blocker/someone to check perkins/davis down low when D12 goes out to help on D. Why do we need all that shooters if the play call is gonna be Hedo to the rim everytime anyway.
not a good idea against the Celtics
Davis and Scal would stretch Gortat too far out. I like it against other teams, but not Boston

D12 can stay with them.
Gortat just has to keep an eye on Perkins. I am just so sick of other teams bait D12 out and then make an easy pass to whoever D12 is guarding and layup. I’ll let Scal and Davis shoot from outside, but no layups!
Might as well try. I agree that it probably isn't a good idea against Boston, but at least try.

The Surfdog
there isn't much to say now.
i’m so disappointed in magic,that i can’t describe it.
i’m a magic fan from ‘95,and it won’t change ever, but this is sad moment for me.
how could they lose last night’s game with season on the line?
they owed us that W. yes,you can lose a home game,it happens, but then you go out and correct it on the road.
i haven’t seen the game, but from ben’s short recap it’s obvious what caused loss.
like always,we are responsible for our losses.
i’d swallow it if boston played superbly,if they were better(well, they did,but you know what i mean). but losing a game in which you dominated for 40 mins is just too much.
wouldn’t be,though,if that happens once in a while, like in the other great squads.
but no,ma’am,magic are repeating it almost on a daily basis, and we’re half expected to get used to it.
it’s like : yeah,we have the talent, and all,why bother playing hard?? wins come just like that to a better teams,so don’t bother, please. if you played hard, you might get all sweaty, and we don’t want that, right?
and now what? we have 2 great options:
1. hope for the miracle in game 7( including 6,to be honest),and that’s no happening, guys. guaranteed.
2. we can talk this way : well there wasn’t ‘meer,so it’s all going to be just splendid next season.
nope, dude. ain’t gonna happen. these are deeper issues we’re dealing with now.
it smells like a SVG job. bring some order in,man!
i’d recommend dwight to call for another player-only meeting.
and i recommend magic fans to get used to it. we miss something.
and no,it is not Jameer Nelson.
You know who i miss?
Pat Garrity. Anthony Bowie. Donald Royal. no. Jeff Turner. Yes, I miss Jeff Turner.
We need someone who can consistently makes a shot when wide open, and that someone has to be totally disrespected by the other team so he will be wide open time and again. Kinda like Davis for the Celts. On the current Magic team, all the shooters are well respected, so they are never left too wide open, and then when they are left open, they miss. Then the disrespected guys like Battie just doesn’t hit that mid range shot with regularity.
I guess I am not making much sense, but that’s what I get when I don’t sleep well.

Face it Dwight is right.
For Dwight to get better the coaches need to change that play book. What I don’t understand is if Perkins is shutting him down then why not run a pick and roll for Dwight and create a miss match. They seem to just dribble jack up shots and hope that Dwight will catch an offensive rebound. On any other team Dwight would be a mega star he would probably be complaining about getting too many touches. Dwights stats should be 20.6 points 13.6 rebounds and at least 7.6 assists from getting double teamed.
and then D12 will miraculously develop a go-to move.
I love D12. He is DPOY and deservedly so. His DEFENSE is why the Magic is so good this year. But if he wants more touches on offense with the game on the line, he has to show that he can score consistently on his own when he’s 5ft out from the rim.
And one thing on that running hook, it works better when the running gets you closer to the basket, not farther.
This summer he will work on his offense, and you will see a big leap on his gameplay.
Last year he focused on developing his defense during the summer and the Olympics, and it earned him the DPOY award. We all can only pray that he is as successful with developing his offensive weapons.

I think I am in the minority here too...
This one is on Dwight’s shoulders. He looked disinterested. He didn’t guard Big Baby in the 4th quarter. I didn’t mind Marburry getting his points. If he is their #2 option (which he was in the beginning of the 4th), that’s the gamble I’ll take. But Big Baby already killed us once. I’m sorry, that shouldn’t happen twice.
Stan had a few major lapses. Lee should have been in the game when Allen took the 4th-quarter-go-ahead shot. JJ was cold and frankly, if he is cold, he is useless. Even Pietrus is a bigger body and more athletic.
At the end of the day, the NBA is a superstar league. Not a coach league. Dwight did not play like he wanted to win it late. Stan is going to take the heat on this one. But Dwight is culpable too.

His hands were up calling for the ball on almost every offensive possesion, and at one point hedo drove to the basket and and he kicked it out for a 3 instead of passing it to dwight who had a clear miss match. Look its the playoffs the other team is making a run you have a guy in the post, instead you kick it out for a three…the saying is always you don’t live by the three you die by the three.

Soo...
I’m not even talking about the offensive side of the ball. The defense lapsed. Dwight did not hustle for the loose rebounds. Second chance points killed us in the last 4 mins. Big Baby scored 2 big shots with less than 4 mins in the game.
Dwight needs that Killer Instict. Maybe he’s developing it now- with all the media calling us soft and how we can’t finish.
Stan does need to run more plays for Dwight. He has improved on his free throws in the clutch. Stan shares so Like I said, Dwight is the leader. If we lose. It’s on him.

Its
Its hard to call him a leader when the leader can’t even touch the ball.
by Holdmypickle on May 13, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions
That logic...
implies that offense is the only thing that matters. Granted, you have to score to win. The Magic didn’t score. The TEAM didn’t score. We lost.
But there was a clear lack of hustle on defense. Dwight was disinterested because he wasn’t getting the ball. I’m sorry. That’s failure. He is the defensive player of the year. He didn’t step up in the clutch. The team followed his precedent.
I also have to give credit to the Celtics. The Magic did a great job not letting them get hot and we held them to a low FG%. They stepped up. But they shouldn’t have had that opportunity.
We all love the Magic. We all want to win. But the team needs a fire lit under the butt. I’d really rather loose the game in a blowout than continually dropping off and giving up leads. It just kills me.
by The Stan 'Stache on May 13, 2009 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions
And last night was the perfect example
that it’s not just offense that matters. Magic was leading by 10 with 5 to go. Then the Celts scored on pretty much every single posession from then on. Just a couple more stops and Magic wins. Magic can stop Celts down the stretch. They did it in game 4, that’s how they crawled back. But last night Magic couldn’t get stops.
.. and that starts and ends with Dwight.
He’s the anchor of the defense and when he’s worrying about the offensive side of the ball, that effects his play on the defensive side of the ball. I don’t think it’s too far-fetched to suggest he wasn’t “in it” mentally down the stretch.

Don’t pout when you chuck up wild hook shots, then complain to the officials. Be responsible for your actions. You didn’t get the ball more because you killed possessions offensively.
It’s no coincidence that Orlando extended the lead when Dwight wasn’t in the game during the third quarter. Look, Howard has been incredible this season but he needs to learn to be mature.

This one hurts
I felt like throwing up afterwards. Probably one of the worst losses I’ve seen my team have. This one felt like when the Chargers lost against the Patriots (dammit Boston) in the ’06 playoffs.
They controlled the tempo. Hedo had a solid game. Skip had maybe 3/4 bad shots, the rest came within the flow of the offense. Rashard was dominant the first 3 quarters. Gortat and Battie played well. But Boston never stopped playing and they got the win.
This sucks.

Another thing that gets me mad is.
Even if Dwight doesn’t shoot it the attention he gets from just being in the low post would create more wide open 3’s instead of taking a bunch of contested 3s.
I agree with you on this point.
The Magic’s game is inside-out. When we play low, pass out and swing, it’s most effective.
Something different needs to happen. I say, if Perkins and Davis are stopping Dwight low- continually run the high screen, have Dwight roll to the basket, the weak side wing crash and the ball handler drive. Crash the entire lane and “out athlete” the Celtics.
There is no doubt that we are a more athletic team. Look at their players! They could be a blowling team.

Give the ball to Howard! Why? So he can put up a wild hook shot then complain to the official or turn the ball over and then complain to the official? It’s empirically proven that giving the ball to Dwight more or less makes no difference in whether the team wins or loses. The truth hurts.
Dwight even contradicts himself .. “go with what works” .. what worked was not giving the ball to him. It’s no coincidence that the Magic were able to extend the lead when Howard was out of the game during the third quarter. What worked was dribble penetration and attacking the basket.

they actually did not attempt that many bad early in the shot clock contest 3s during the meltdown last night. I think only the one taking by Lewis from way behind the line was with shot clock >10. The other one by Lewis was widewide open that he missed badly, and the one by Alston, other than the fact that it was taken by Alston, was also a wide open shot with little left on the clock. There was also a Hedo attempt that was before the official meltdown i think, that was a good look. Anyway, when it’s apparent that the offense was out of sync and Celts are locking things down low, why not just jack up more 3s. Work the clock a bit, and run some simple screens and have them fire away. I felt Magic started playing differently or at least thinking differently (don’t take a 3, or we are gonna get grilled by ESPN folks tomorrow) and that messed everything up. Just take the damn 3s, if you are gonna get blamed for something ANYWAY you might as well go all out.
Well, the way Orlando choked last night was by chucking up threes.

Much do about Nuthing...
Luckily, this too will pass, keep swimming eddy, “love that Dirty Water” – though I guess the bay down there is probably as bad as the Charles…
I respect the stuff ben and eddy do to give y’all the truest perspective they can, it’s worth my time to read their stuff, and many fanposts as well. Just bothers me that so much of the reaction to last night seems to be taking out frustrations with the team on their posted opinions, which seem to be right on to me, and I’m a celtics fan.
Thanks for the kind words.
It’s disappointing and frustrating to say the least .. but what can do you.

I could go out and become a writer/reporter/blogger/media presence and have access to NBA reality
but I’m probably not gonna ;) You do a helluva job and I am glad you do, so I can enjoy the bon mots you place before us….
Hah.
That’s gracious of you to say. Thanks again, I just try to do the best I can!

One More At Home!
There’s plenty of blame to go around, specially Van Gundy, who stubornly insists on plays that DON’T WORK! And keeps our BEST defender and most consistent clutch player, Courtney Lee, OUT OF THE LINEUP!
But the past is past… can’t change it. We can, however change the future. We HAVE to come together once again and win those TWO last games, starting with the one here in Orlando. We MUST close them out!!! And we will!
I want to believe it is possible.
Now, for it to happen, the Magic has to create a big lead (+15 points?) and be able to sustain it all the way. Anything else, and I fear the Magic will end up losing. When you are playing a team like Boston (or the Cavaliers or the Lakers) you don’t want to play those final minutes with a close score. It’s unfair, but that’s the way the game is.
