Off-Day Open Thread: Predict The Orlando Magic / Philadelphia 76ers Series Outcome

It's less than 24 hours until Game 1 tips off between the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers. We know that Andre Miller and Thaddeus Young are eager to face off against the Magic. We know that Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu are ready to go tomorrow. We know that, according to Bill Simmons of ESPN's Page 2, the arena crowd for Orlando and Philadelphia "sucks" (via Liberty Ballers), etc.

Orlando's crowd sucks, and Philly's crowd is worse, like you can extensively have 5,000 of your own fans at a Philly playoff game... which Orlando won't because they don't have 5,000 fans total.

Ouch.

With all that said, I wanted to get a pulse of what the Third Quarter Collapse community believes will happen with regards to the series. Attached to this post is a poll, in which you can select which outcome you think will occur! If you'd like, feel free to flesh out your prediction in the comments section below.

The poll will close tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. EST.

Can't see it going more than 5

Philly is going to be trading 2s for 3s, and although they played Dwight well in the regular season on the offensive end, he’s gonna be such a force on defense that Philly is going to be forced into a jump-shooting team, and obviously that doesn’t help Philly any. Too much firepower from Orlando, and with the starting 5 playing more minutes our defense is gonna be even tougher to score on.

Shaq sucks.

Agreed. I have the series going 5 games, officially.

My official prediction

(For what it’s worth) is Magic in 4. I would love to see a sweep and get an extra couple days of rest. Not only am I cheering for it, I think it is extremely likely.

The only thing that worries me is that the Magic don’t keep up the intensity every night. This has been a problem late in the season. It’s a long year and folks can only take so much ‘motivators’ night in and out. Let’s hope the playoffs add that extra incentive to play hard and with a high level of energy and toughness.

We are a 4 game series BETTER than Philly, if that makes sense.

A sweep is certainly possible, but very difficult to accomplish.

Your “4 game series better” comment makes sense, btw.

you know, I only read the poll, and not the post itself

but this?

Orlando’s crowd sucks, and Philly’s crowd is worse, like you can extensively have 5,000 of your own fans at a Philly playoff game… which Orlando won’t because they don’t have 5,000 fans total.

is one of the douchiest things I’ve ever read, and I’ve been on the internet for a long time. Seriously, what a colossal wanker and supremely uncalled for. Go diaf, Bill Simmons.

Obey the hat.

Yeah, I felt that comment (which was said in a podcast) was unnecessary.

Tas Melas of the Basketball Jones trashed Orlando a few weeks ago too

Talking about how it’s lame for teams to retire a jersey for the sixth man, he said something like, “Especially for a crowd like Orlando’s”

I almost sent him a sassy email, but evs.

Simmons has never liked the Magic much, I don’t think.

Simmons = another reason I detest boston sports teams.....massholes

He can go sit in his car and scream or light himself on fire and see how high that is on his unintentional comedy scale (those make sense if you’ve read his columns)

Admittedly not as good as it could be...

Orlando fans are admittedly not as good as they should be. But when the Amway Arena is full it is one of the most rocking places in the league. The late-90s O-Rena was one of the greatest arena experiences in NBA history. Magic fans have been hurt a lot by their history and fans are slowly coming back. Hopefully those in Orlando will come out tomorrow and Wednesday for the games.

Last I heard, there are still 250 tickets available for tomorrow's game.

.. going back to your previous post, yeah, during the mid-to-late 90’s, the O-Rena was rocking.

ALL THE 3QC FANS IN ORLANDO SHOULD BUY THE $10 TICKETS AND GO AS A GROUP

I’ll drive! I’m, like, 5 minutes away from the arena…

Obey the hat.

That's a neat idea. A number of blogs have themed nights, like what you're suggesting.

.. but it’d be tough since a number of 3QCers are scattered around the country (plenty are in town, though). Plus it’s so last-minute too. Not trying to ruin your idea! Just saying. This is certainly something worth exploring next season (getting a 3QC group together for a game).

oh yeah, really last minute, lol

….unless we all decided to go to the second game!!! :O

but I would love for a get together to happen, even if it were just at someone’s house or at a sports bar :3 *claps hands *

Obey the hat.

Let's see if something "official" can happen next season.

.. but feel free to organize something for the playoffs. That’d be great.

If someone is willing, I'd suggest making a FanPost asap and gauge the interest level.

Tickets won’t be too hard to come by .. just need to figure out where ya’ll would meet, who wants to go, etc. Wish I could help but I’m out of town, for the time being.

Sounds like a good plan

Seeing as I have no Magic fans in my general area to watch the game with, other than my cousin who knwos nothing about basketball.

Shaq sucks.

by Paul Finger on Apr 19, 2009 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Simmons should just worry about his own sorry team...

…it was great to see all the energy taken out of the garden about 15 seconds in after that sick alley-oop from Rose to Noah to open the game. If Boston bounces back to win that series, I now officially LOVE our chances against them in a 7-game series.

Magic in 5

Philly should be able to steal one game as the Magic knock off some rust after what was a pretty terrible finish to the regular season.
