Boston go down to Bulls at home in OT

Bit of a shock there. I thought Chi-town had the potential to peg back a few games at the United Centre and push the C's to 6 or 7 games, but I never saw them taking the first game in Boston at all.

Rose went off for 36 points and 11 assists in his first ever playoff game, Rondo replied with 29 points, 7 assists, 9 rebounds. Boston's bench only chipped in with a woeful 15 points between 5 players, including some big ol' goose-eggs for Tony Allen and Stephon Marbury. Ray Allen went 1-for-12 from the field for four points in 39 minutes!

Garnett sat with the bench for the first half, cheerleading and motivating, then didn't emerge from the locker room for the second half at all.

So, who else is pleased this series is going our way?

Way, way, way, way, way too early to predict where that series is headed.

I still expect the Celtics to beat the Bulls.

not necessarily saying the bulls are going to win,

so much as saying either way, i’m liking the magic’s chances more and more.

Eriv

I wasn’t predicting Chicago will win this series, just saying they have more of a fighting chance, given this performance, than I gave them credit for.

I’m certainly cheering for them for a number of reasons: I hate Boston; I’m a Brit and Luol Deng and Ben Gordon are Bulls; I hate Boston; I’m a BIG Derrick Rose fan; Chicago are far more preferable to play than Boston.

This post was bought to you by British beer, cured meat products and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje: the player so good, they named him twice.

Oh, I know. Just throwing caution to the wind, that's all.

I’m rooting for the Bulls, too, for what it’s worth (mainly because I desperately want to see the Magic play up here during the playoffs). As for the Celtics, they’re clearly in for a fight after the Game 1 loss.

Not to change the subject, but...

changing the subject. Did you see how many fouls the starting five had for the Cavs. Five total. That’s called home town love. You can’t say that it isn’t. Bron averages 1.7 fouls a game. Have you seen him play? He is super aggressive, posibbly cause he knows he won’t get called for it.

by hevchv on Apr 18, 2009 5:54 PM EDT reply actions

yeah, however much I hate the Pistons

the fact that the Cavs went almost an entire quarter without a foul is utterly ridiculous.

Obey the hat.

Yeah, I made a note of the foul discrepancy (specifically with LeBron) a week or two ago.

I’ll repeat what one team executive said about James averaging 1.7 fouls/game, “It’s impossible.”

Yeah, that's the only reason I couldnt see us beating Cleveland

If it gets to the point of us vs the Cavs in the ECF, David Stern will make sure the Lebrons will make it to the finals. And the officiating, I’m starting to believe, is just terrible overall, even when there’s blatant home cooking there’s still some calls I scratch my head at. Like that Noah block on Big Baby in the C’s game, probably the cleanest block you could possibly have but they gave it to them anyway. Just really glad they didnt give that call to Pierce at the end of OT when he drove to the basket, I was fully expecting a whistle no matter what he did there.

Shaq sucks.

We’ve got good history against them. Will it be a walk? No. But I think we do as good a job as anyone in the league of playing D on Lebron, and I don’t think the Cavs (like the Bulls) are ready to handle adversity well enough. When they lose one at home, after they play their hardest (that last regular season game obviously doesn’t count) they’re going to feel like they’ve been hit by a truck.

It's clear that Orlando matches up favorably to Cleveland ..

.. but the playoffs are a different animal. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I think Cleveland beats Orlando in a possible series ..

.. but the Magic will give the Cavaliers a fight. I just think, in the end, LeBron James will be too much and simply take things over when the chips are down for the Cavs. It won’t be because of David Stern (though conspiracy theorists would disagree). We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Absolutely. It would be a great accomplishment for the Magic (to make the ECF).

I think, at this point, many Orlando fans would be content if that the team got that far.

1 of 12 from the floor?

I have to wonder if Ray Allen is going to snap out of it. There’s no way Chi-town’s D is that good on him consistantly. I see this series going to 6 or 7, but if the bulls win, I think it’ll indicate that they’re better than anyone really believed (read: Deriick Rose has evolved into a game changer already), not that the Celtics folded. Definitely the most interesting series in the East, IMHO.

Ray Allen will snap out of it ..

If the Bulls win, it’ll be due to a combination of reasons (the Bulls improving as a team since the Miller/Salmons trade, KG being out, etc). Definitely an intriguing series, to say the least.

Sorry Rivera.

I didn’t see your post on the fouls. I’ve been really preoccupied with my Cardinals and the draft. But yeah. “It’s impossible.”

The Celts are in trouble!

Gordon is on fire and Pierce looks dead out there, getting his shot blocked by Brad Miller and Joakim Noah in back-to-back possessions!

Gordon is playing out of his mind right now.

.. Celtics are hanging on for dear life.

Were the Bulls out of timeouts at the end?

I can’t imagine they wanted Tyrus Thomas handling the ball there with 2 seconds left!
