Dime: "The trade that will bring Orlando a championship"?

>>Dime Mag<<

The long and the short of it is as follows:

Orlando gets

Vince Carter + Sean Williams

New Jersey gets

Hedo Turkoglu + Tony Battie + JJ Redick

And apparently, Portland don't use Travis Outlaw as a crunch-time shooter.

If you're not a regular reader of Dime, Austin Burton is largely clueless but seems to have maneuvered his way into a position to use the Dime Magazine site as a mouthpiece for ill-informed views and outlandish predictions, then backtracks after they go wrong.

But this one is quite funny, to me at least.

Do you agree? Do you see another trade elsewhere that helps us as a team?

I'd do it

if the nets take some (3-4 mil) money from VC’s contract like they do often in baseball. But only in that circumstance.

squid

you and i often have similar viewpoints, and really if one was to have watched the effort VC put into this last year you would see it wouldn’t be the same as T-Mac or Stevie “franchise”. haha

I mean, this is whoolllyyy hypothetical really, but I would agree that this man brings the aspects of basketball that we not only play to, but he provides things that only C-Lee really is willing to do at the moment.

isn't Carter the Marbury of the Nets?

He sucks the will to live right out of his teammates? :|

Obey the hat.

Hes had a very solid year

Put up great numbers and actually is starting to be a team player. He sure isnt at the level T-Mac is now. Still, would I do this trade…honestly, I probably would, then we can start the Twin Towers of Gortat and Howard. I CAN HAZ MOAR REBOUNDZ?

Shaq sucks.

I concur

VC is made of glass, he’d be a rich man’s MP. No from me also.

Interesting but have to say,No,

If Hedo goes u will need more of a passer / scorer / rebounder/ allarounder.

VC averages 21, 5, and 5 on 44% from the field and 39% from three-point range

From that standpoint, he’s better than Turk.

What I wonder, though, is what role his height would play in it. Carter’s 6’07", so he’s not, you know, J.J. Redick or anything, but Turk is 6’10". That’s a matchup nightmare. Also, how good is he in pick-and-roll situations?

There’s really no doubt that Vince is a better player than Turk, and he adds the dimension of being a proven, All-NBA, go-to scorer. Buuuuut he might not be as good a fit for Orlando as Turk is.

Better player but not the better fit. Plus he's older and more expensive.

Yeah, now that I think about it

Vince is getting up there in years, but if I got 2 years of high level Vince with this team and he stayed healthy Id have to consider it.

Shaq sucks.

V.C. is a little better on 3's and FG'S

but Turk is a little better on assists and rebs. V.C.‘S scoring #’s are down this year too but there is no doubt he can score. I just like Turk because of his size and he adds another big body and i lke the way he sets up Howard.

Carter would thrive in Turks role

Carter over two years > Turk over two years. The money part is none of my concern, let Devos spend it for all I care.

Battie is overpaid, but if we could get Hedo plus a true MLE level 4 I’d take that over Carter just barely, but I don’t mind this trade in the slightest.

Thoughts.

.. historically, most NBA players begin to decline once they reach that 32, 33, 34 age threshold. Turk still has some prime years in him, Carter .. not so much. Now granted, VC > Turk, but it doesn’t make sense to trade for a guy that’s a bad fit, not a good defender, old, too expensive, and who’s stats will begin to decline. Not a smart move. The Orlando Magic have too many large salaries as it is .. adding a $15 million dollar contract in this economic environment (for the NBA) is suicide.

Battie IS overpaid, but I rather hold onto his expiring contract for other reasons.

Old

Expensive.

Not sufficiently better than Hedo that I think he gets us a title. Not sufficiently better than Hedo that it would justify paying him $16m a season for two seasons. Not sufficiently better than Lee that it’s worth giving up our point forward. Would give Jameer back the key playmaking role that he struggled with two seasons ago. Takes away the triple tower matchup pain for opposing teams.

All for a guy who can “create his own shot.”

Because we’ve sucked so hard without one of them the past two seasons.

can anyone explain why the nets have such a poor record?

I haven’t really paid attention to VC’s game since his rookie year, but my instinct is to think that he’s a flashy player whose talent doesn’t really translate into winning when he’s not playing with a brilliant point guard.

Dead serious

In crunch time it is 35% Outlaw and 65% Roy for the Blazers. Outlaw is super clutch. His nickname is Mr. 4th quarter. Laugh if you want, but he has honestly deserved it.

Not as outlandish a trade as one might think....

Vince Carter this year has quietly had one of his best career years and from watching a few Nets games on League Pass, he has emerged as a co-leader and helped Devn Harris’ emergence (not that there wasnt a little vice-versa in that relationship)

Who knows, dude is 30+ and been in the league for 10 years now and has a better perspective for the game. Maybe coming home to his home state and playing for a potential contender in Orlando and alongside Dwight would reinvigorate him further. Plus as great as Hedo has been, he is quite a limited player of sorts and really we have enough 3 point shooters on this team. Vince slashing to the hole would be a bonus.

Question is….how much is the contract?

Too much.

Roughly $15 million .. a trade wouldn’t make any sense economically.

redick

I would give JJ Redick away to just about anybody, be needs to get off twitter and start scoring when he gets in the game. Stan doesnt go to him often but the other night he got in and went out their and shot up bricks. He needs to score when he gets in, hit that three ball. Stop tweeting on twitter, buying hair gel, and shopping for your next man purse and hit a shot in the playoffs.
