3QC End-Season Awards: Biggest Surprise

Since the second-half of the season has gone by for the Orlando Magic, it's time to present the inaugural Third Quarter Collapse End-Season Awards. Instead of conducting a regular poll, we at 3QC have decided for you to vote & comment which Magic player you feel is most deserving of each award.

What and/or which player do you feel has been the Biggest Surprise?

The results will be compiled & announced on Saturday.

AJ

He was widely reviled in the beginning of the season to be almost beloved by everyone near the end of it.

"...which was surprising" I meant to add

no one doubted him playing 10 minutes a game.

he could definitely do that. but not run a team. that wasn’t much of a surprise. RE: trade for rafer, our record when we lost Jameer.

C-Lee was supposed to be an okay contributor, not a starter on one of the best teams in the league.

A.J.'s transformation from hated to loved has been surprising.

It’s awesome, though. He’s just Dad.

Three big surprises

Jameer’s improvement

Magic’s success w/ Alston

Lee.

I’d go w/ Jameer. No one expected him to be an all-star this year.

Nelson expected it, though (to be an All-Star)!

CLee

who’d’ve thunk that a draft choice would work out for us!

Obey the hat.

C. Lee

It’s been a joy to see this kid grow and mature in front of our eyes. The future is bright for the rook.

1)LEE -as Stan says rook makes very few mistakes plays like vet.
2)GORTAT-who new he would progress like he has
3)ALSTON-new he could run a team but surprised me with his intensity and energy

CLee wins easily.

But I would like to give an Honorable Mention to ANY of Anthony Johnson’s dunks this year.

YES. Absolutely .. can't underestimate the Dunks of the Month for A.J.

Courtney Lee

with a honorable mention to my man Gortat. Hope we find a way to keep him.

Gortat is as good as gone, which is a shame.

Courtney "Spiderman" Lee

I was expecting a guy to split back-up minutes at PG and SG who could maybe contribute in the occasional game.

We got Spiderman to run alongside Superman and Mighty Mouse.

This post was bought to you by British beer, cured meat products and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje: the player so good, they named him twice.

C.Lee

I never thought he’d start for us as soon as this year.

C.Lee....

Nothing to add.

Not a lot of surprises ..... half surprises?

(1) Jameer Nelson — I hoped he’d take this step forward, and felt he was capable of it, but I wasn’t sure if he’d come good. Jameer was my biggest question heading into the season, and I wasn’t sure of the answer, so he’s my choice as the biggest surprise

(2) Rashard’s continued development defensively. But the rest of his game was as expected.

(3) Redick proved himself worthy of minutes (not his biggest fan in the past)

(4) Courtney Lee — I expected him to have this type of overall impact as a rookie … but not necessarily in this way (as a defensive stopper), so somewhat surprising.

Stan Van Gundy

I feel he’s played a huge part in taking us this far. I certainly didn’t expect him to be this good.

Runner-ups: Jameer Nelson, Courtney Lee, Gortat.

Ah, a vote for the ol' coach. Nice.

I’m not surprised at what SVG has been able to do with this team, to be honest. His track record with Miami was impressive, sans a few instances that were out of his control.

Ill have to say AJ

Dude is old but he knows how to play, pretty much every game I scream no every time he takes a shot, but it seems like every time I do that he buries it.

Shaq sucks.

Definitely Courtney Lee

HOWEVER!!

I never expected Jameer to amount to what he has. I told my dad last summer that the Magic were not going to contend with him at the point, and it was the most wrong I’ve ever been about anything.

Gortat flew out of nowhere to be a SOLID backup for Dwight, but that really happened late last year, and he’s just improved his position all year.

2nd place - SVG playing JJ

Miraculous, though I’m still not super impressed with him. (JJ)

Otis Smith's vote: Courtney Lee

From the Sentinel:

But Smith says “the biggest surprise” was the team’s lone rookie — shooting guard Courtney Lee. Lee played in 76 games and makes his 42nd start tonight.
