Scoreboard Watching: April 1st, 2009

Scoreboard Watching will give Orlando Magic fans a heads-up on which games with potential playoff implications to pay attention to.

  1. HEADLINER: Charlotte at Boston, 7:30 PM

This game is huge for two reasons. First, the Celtics are battling with the Magic for the East's second seed, with homecourt advantage through at least the conference semifinals on the line. Second, the Bobcats are on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, but they've won 3 straight games, including an upset of the L.A. Lakers last night. If they get in, it might just be at Detroit's expense, keeping the Magic's nemesis out of harm's reach come playoff-time. Remember, Detroit has eliminated Orlando in each of the last two playoffs and is the only Eastern Conference team the Magic failed to defeat at least once this season.

    Final - 4.1.2009 1 2 3 4 OT 1 OT 2 Total
    Charlotte Bobcats 33 18 26 16 8 8 109
    Boston Celtics 26 28 17 22 8 10 111

  2. WORTH NOTING: Detroit at New Jersey, 7:30 PM

The Nets aren't officially out of the playoff hunt, but it's only a matter of time before they're mathematically eliminated. And they're a poor home team, at just 15-22 on the season. Detroit appears to have the upper-hand, but then again, the Pistons will be without the suspended Rasheed Wallace, and Allen Iverson is, to no one's surprise, unhappy with his new sixth-man role.

    Final - 4.1.2009 1 2 3 4 Total
    Detroit Pistons 21 27 27 23 98
    New Jersey Nets 32 27 27 25 111

The Nets are pulling away from the Pistons.

The Celtics are beating the Bobcats.

Should be interesting to see if either games hold up.

Nice. That works.

Allows for more in-depth discussion, rather than posting updated scores.

A Detroit loss would put them .5 games ahead of Chicago for the #7 seed.

A Bobcats win would accomplish two goals .. put them closer to the Bulls for the #8 seed and also aid the Magic in adding another loss for the Celtics. I’d be surprised if Charlotte beat Boston, but anything is possible.

So says KG!

But srsly, I don’t think they’ll be able to pull it off :(

Well, Orlando just missed a golden opportunity to gain a stranglehold on the #2 seed.

.. with Boston losing right now late in the fourth quarter vs. the Bobcats. Oh well.

Detroit is losing too, which will put them closer to the #8 seed in the East.

It's a done deal . . .

Unlike us they finish off weak teams at home.

Detroit losing helps regardless.

Boston (potentially) winning doesn’t help.

The widget isn't updated. Boston is in OT right now with Charlotte.

What an awful possession

Charlotte had a really good chance to go up 3… a couple good chances, after getting a couple offensive rebounds, but couldnt convert.

Bobcats are up 1 right now. Let's see if they can hang on.

Double OT for the Celts!

They’re just postponing their inevitable win :(

i knew they'd eventually win :(

Oh well it’s not like we really wanted 61 wins and the 2nd seed! >:(

Talk about clutch.

Ray Allen pulls out his best Jesus Shuttlesworth impression for the second time in as many OTs.

Barring unforeseen upset losses, that should wrap up the #2 seed for Boston.

Boston has 6 games left, 5 of them are winnable excluding Cleveland. Should be 62 wins.

Orlando has 8 games left, 6 of them winnable excluding Cleveland & Houston (ALL according to the project standings I shared a few days ago). Should be 61 wins, but let’s say the Magic beat either the Cavaliers or the Rockets. That’ll be 62 wins but Boston would have the tie-breaker.

Either a.) the Celtics have to lose 2 games or b.) the Magic need to run the table. It’ll be tough.
