Poll: Who is Your Favorite Orlando Magic Mainstay (Not Named Dwight Howard)
Roughly a month ago in a poll, I asked the Orlando Pinstriped Post community to decide which newcomer on the Orlando Magic was their favorite. The returns showed that the people liked Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson the most out of the new players on the Magic.
But what about the mainstays for Orlando not named Dwight Howard? Between Marcin Gortat, Anthony Johnson, Rashard Lewis, Jameer Nelson, Mickael Pietrus, and J.J. Redick, which individual has become your favorite out of the group? Once again, there's no wrong answer.
Superman is omitted because he is the franchise player and, without a doubt, the most popular person on the team.
If you'd like, explain your choice in the comments section below.

Shard = Silent But Deadly
I’m surprised JJ got more votes than Jameer.

Shard most deff
How can anyone honestly say JJ, before this year nobody liked JJ except chicks who thought he was hot. He has really stepped it up this year and is deffinetly at the top of my list on other things but not overall. Shard showed us his importance after missing ten games, Meer would deff be my second choice due to his leadership and overall toughness he brings to the court.

It's popularity, not who's better or worse.

I never thought I'd say this
But I have to say JJ. I love the way he’s been playing this year. He knows the game and plays it hard. Rashard is right there with him, but JJ has my vote.
I am the world's best basketball player! *

Pietrus is my fav on the team
Not because of his play but because of his goofyness. Guy makes me laugh nearly everytime I see him
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?
by Souwantmyname on Dec 24, 2009 10:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Definitely Rashard.
He just goes about his business every game, always plays hard. He’s done whatever Stan’s asked him to (except go back into that game against Utah hah), has changed his position basically, and with that has helped spark the craze for the “stretch 4”. And he has very quietly turned into a really solid defender at this new position.
Jameer gets my second place vote. I love his attitude and his game when he’s on. Ice-cold threes off the dribble and finishes great in the lane even though he’s probably not even 6 feet tall.

Yeah, Lewis' evolution from small forward to power forward has been intriguing to watch.

Rashard Lewis
I just love everything he does for the team. After years as a small forward in Seattle he has to suddenly adjust to a pure power forward getting beat up inside by big Kevin Garnett and Amar’e Stoudemire. Does he complain once? No, he just keeps playing and deals with it. As a result, he improves from constant effort and now he’s a mismatch nightmare and in my opinion, the best 3 point shooter in the league and an all-star. There is almost no one in the league who is more of a team player than Rashard Lewis.

Yeah, Lewis is definitely a team player.
I respect the fact that Rashard will do whatever it takes to help the team win.

Rashard's more popular than Jameer? Really?
Surprising.

Still. I didn't think people really liked Rashard that much
Not saying that I thought they disliked him, but I always thought people viewed him with indifference.

I think if it is out of those choices, people roll with the most consistent player. I think everyone would prefer the 100 million dollar man would be more dominant.

Meer,
I like Shard, but the dude should be better than he is sometimes. Meer is the man, I know he hasn’t been healthy which is very frustrating. He is one of the main leaders on this team and if he gets healthy and you do this poll again, I would expect him to be the leader.

Only one option for my family... J.J. Redick
It’s NOT what he’s done this season… this is just the culmination of a four year struggle, when the "other" coach would not even play him… AT ALL!!! Redick came with one of the best resumes in basketball. Now, everyone knew he also had some obvious shortcomings; mostly a weak defense and a one-dimensional offensive attack. The lack of confidence shown towards him shook his nerve; he lost his touch. His career became a slippery rollercoaster ride… and the verbal abuse just kept coming!
It got to the point that he even asked to be traded, just to be able to play.
But all through this, you could see his effort, a tenacious drive to become a better team player. Arguably, he’s worked harder than any other Magic player to improve, first his physical conditioning so he can better chase those elusive guards he has to defend, and two, refine his three-point shot and broaden his offensive options to fill whatever need the Team require at any given time.
It has and still is, a work in progress…
But, along the way J.J. Redick has become much more than a spot shooter; his "feel" for the game is amazing and his passes are, for the most part, spot on. At his still young age, he shows more restraint and discipline as a shooter than Carter, or MP!
And even though he’s not the fastest guard on the Team (not even close…), BY SHEER WILL, he runs up and down the court as fast as anyone… when he has to. One example; against Utah, he made a mistake, which resulted in a fast break opportunity for the Jazz. In a sublime effort to prevent the basket, incredibly, he chased down the player, and knocked the ball from behind, saving a sure basket.
The other players on this list are all fine; each with great professional attributes. But… for my wife and I, it’s J.J. Redick. His focused, disciplined approach to the game and the sheer energy an unselfish demeanor he brings to the table, are the "stuff" that makes a mans true character. Something even my young daughters recognize and admire. May God bless him!

would you have picked JJ last year????
probably not…..he is for sure the most improved and most underestimated player but how can he be your favorite.. Last year and at the begginning of this year this site was full of comments doubting JJ;s ability to play at this level,, His shot was horrible and everyone felt he wasn’t living up to his hype includong me. JJ is for sure not as impotant to this team as Meer or Shard.

It's not about importance, but popularity.
Great Expectations is a better book than Twilight, but Twilight is more popular, you know?

JJ sucks balls...he can't even handle the ball!!!!!
by Jace on Dec 25, 2009 5:23 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Um...?
His turnover rate of 9.9 is the second best of his career, his assist rate of 13.9 is his very best, and his pure point rating of 2.0 is on par with that of Kirk Hinrich and Mo Williams. He does okay with the ball.

He just isn't a clutch player....he is good on paper and he gives a lot of effort but at the end of the game he doesn't perform very well

Doesn't perform very well? Redick's stats prove otherwise.
