Is the hometown product, Vince Carter, your favorite "new" Orlando Magic player?

With the month of November beginning to come to a close, I wanted to know how the community felt about the new players on the Orlando Magic roster. To be specific, I wanted to know which individual has become your favorite out of the group, so far, between Ryan Anderson, Matt Barnes, Brandon Bass, Vince Carter, and Jason Williams? There's no wrong answer.

If you'd like, in the comments section below, feel free to explain how or why you've been gravitated towards a certain player.

Have at it.

I like Brandon Bass

Even though he hasn’t played much the last couple of games when I’ve seen him play I love his energy and hustle and his mid range jump shot is beautiful!

Good stuff. Thanks for chiming in.

Yeah, Brandon’s mid-range shot is a thing of beauty. Nearly automatic.

I have to go with Vince

Because he’s my all time favorite player. I always thought that given a chance, Vince could display his passing and clutch skills, and this is probably that chance. He has yet to show them at the level I expect from him (watching him closely for so many years in the league) but eventually it will happen.

The things I don’t like about Vince is, and we’ve heard it so many times, the fact that he doesn’t really have heart. He doesn’t really care, besides the politically correct answers, about winning. Sure, he has some glimpses where he really wants to win and these things happen usually in the end of the game when he is brilliant. But he doesn’t have this at the start/during the games (and you can clearly see this only looking at his body language – he’s always been like that).

Now this thing I’m writing right now is turning a bit against Vince but I think I’m just stating the obvious. I hope to see the positive side of him though, and I damn hope Howard learns some low post moves from Hakeem for that matter.

You can't watch him "for so many years" and come to the conclusion that he doesn't have heart

I’m sorry, but you can’t. It’s obvious to anyone who has watched him over time.

Ryan Anderson

Don’t get me wrong, I love Vinsanity. And, I’ve been loving what JWill has been doing for us. Brandon Bass is a bruiser and I am thankful we have him. Matt Barnes is that guy that every team needs, just a heart & hustle player. I love what each of these guys bring to the team.

But, Ryan Anderson will be the X-factor this year. I’ve said this before: Ryan Anderson will be more important for the Magic than Courtney Lee will be for the Nets this year. I think this will end up being the lite version of the LA-Memphis theft with Gasol a couple years ago. I think Otis knew or saw something that no one else saw. There will always be a plethora of young guards who run well and can play adaquate defense. Always. But, you don’t get too many bigs who can shoot like Ryan. There are a ton of bigs who think they can shoot, but cannot sustain an effective fg%. Plus, the guy is young, impressionable and has a great, great attitude. I think this will end up as the Magic’s best offseason pickup.

You like Dags?

by Derrty on Nov 23, 2009 6:43 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, stretch fours are a rare commodity in the NBA and Orlando has two of 'em.

As you said, players like Courtney Lee are a dime a dozen. Players like Ryan Anderson aren’t.

I agree

The potential ceiling on Mr Anderson is tall… I see a David Lee/Dirk Nowitski hybrid… And yes I said Dirk!

I couldnt say any better!

Anderson has blosson or is showing that he will grow a lot more as a player. Great pick. Not dishing the ohter picks at all, but think that Anderson will help the Magics for years to come.

White Chocolate

because you never know what he might do. He might not do anything special in a game, but he always has the potential to do something sick.

-Vince: not impressed taking 90 jumpshots and 2 freethrows.

-Bass and Barnes: will be vital in the playoffs. Not my favorites but both will be important.

-Anderson: future star and I can see the Magic making Lewis expendable because he’s younger and almost as good.

Well, to be fair, Carter has helped the Magic finish games against the Bobcats, Celtics, and Raptors.

Sure, it’d be nice if Vince shot more efficiently, but that will come in time when Jameer Nelson comes back.

I can't fault his reasoning though based on what has transpired so far.

Vince’s ankle was back for the Toronto game, but before that he had absolutely zero lift and was not driving to hoop with any authority.

Jason Williams, on the other hand, has provided us with at least one highlight reel play every game.

Ryan Anderson, because of the surprise element that he....

brought to the team and fans.Vince was a shoe in for this, but Ryan caught everyone off guard with his ability to spread the floor and drive to the basket. Imo he’s like a poor mans, younger raw Turkoglu.

by paching on Nov 23, 2009 6:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I don't know about a poor man's Turkoglu.

More like a Lewis-lite, in terms of skill-set.

Vince Carter who’s had quite a few amazing moments already, just needs to slowly but steadily drop some bad FGA’s, TO’s, then Matt Barnes, especially if he can bounce back into respectable or good shooting %‘s. I like Ryan but it wasn’t hard to see his level of impact give his position and Magic system.

by derekk on Nov 23, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Im starting to like J Will alot too, very steady player with some great moments every game. I think Bass is easily capable of being a fan favorite if he worked on his rebounding/defense and got the play time to show the improvements.
I still think Bass is very capable of backup C. Houston plays undersized big men quite well, and with Bass the offense can run inside-out still because he’s quite an offensive player. Signing him to such a contract and having him on the outs of the rotation is very, very suspicious tho. I can guess the Magic weren’t sure what they had in Ryan yet, but it’s pretty apparent now. The only thing that gives me pause on saying Bass is being shopped for the trade deadline right now is how situations sort of fix themselves over time (i.e. JJ becoming a rotation player now) and the Magic thinking Bass is a capable combo PF/C while Gortat is a more expensive and exclusive C.

by derekk on Nov 24, 2009 1:00 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

True, we’d have to hope throwing Bass in C will really wake up his defense and rebounding. And he can make up some of it with that offense of his.

Hello everyone.

I’ve been reading 3QC since last season’s playoffs, and finally joined yesterday, so now I’ll throw my first two cents in.
My vote went for Vince Carter based as much on what I hope he’ll do as what he’s done, with Ryan Anderson a close second, and Jason Williams third. I’ve only been able to watch the two nationally televised games up here (I’ve listened to the rest), so I’m sure I’m not the best judge, but I’d like a little better shooting percentage from Matt Barnes. As far as Brandon Bass, I like his game, but until he or Anderson prove otherwise, he’s unfortunately the third option at the four.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

It’ll be nice to have some friendly people to talk basketball with. My friends up here are still bitter over the whole Horace Grant/1995 playoffs thing, and I wasn’t too pleased with my phone ringing in the middle of the night for a week after the Bulls won in ’96.

Hey everyone.

I just joined yesterday from Australia so it’s nice to have some people to talk Magic with other than a few friends. I’d have to say Carter is my favorite because of his leadership, his ability to make something out of nothing (better than turk did) and the clutch factor he brings (again, better than turk i think). I think everyone has been criticising him a little too much because of his shooting. He’d been at the Nets for a long time and it can take some time to adjust to a new offense and lead it. Furthermore, he wouldn’t be taking these shots if Van Gundy wasn’t telling him to.

Ryan Anderson

Love his game and his fit. I think he will have a longer relationship with the organization than Carter and will also play a larger role in the big picture.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys

This should be a good week for me. There are two Orlando games on this week in Australia. Usually we get four matches a week and i’ll be lucky if i get one Magic game every two weeks. Every game here will usually be The plethoral Lakers or Bogut and his Bucks.
