[Ray] Allen brought up an interesting point: Did [Rashard] Lewis test positive before the Eastern Conference semifinals, in which the Magic beat the Celtics in seven games? Lewis was tested once before the NBA Finals and then again during the Finals. He tested positive for DHEA both times.

"When did he take the drug test?’’ Allen asked. "Because if he took the drug test during our series, we’re supposed to be playing in the conference finals.’’

WOW, this SERIOUSLY reeks desperation and is wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to start!

Also, if you “read” between the lines, this sounds like a player who believes that his best chance at a championship has already passed him by.

If I were a Boston fan this would worry me . . . :’(

I don't know about that reasoning.

It’s difficult to ascertain what question triggered the quote.

Ray may be right

And everyone here would say the same thing if Pau Gasol had tested positive prior to the Finals.

I only say “may” because I suspect the verification procedures take some time.

On the other hand, the league would have had a public relations nightmare if Rashard had been suspended in the middle of the playoffs. If this was the reason to push the suspension/announcement into the dog days of summer, then Ray is 100% right.

Cry me a river

If Ray Allen wants to start complaining about that series then he should be ready for a ridiculous backlash. The officiating of that whole series was soooooo biased for a Celtics-Cavs Conference Finals that David Stern shouldn’t even show his face. Watch any game until Game 7 and tell me that was a ‘fair’ series. Allen needs to get over himself and realize that they aren’t the better team

That is pretty presumptious

Isn’t the point of a blog to voice your opinion? I agree wholeheartedly with jtam on this one. I am glad you have a short memory and a forgiving heart, but should people that don’t not be allowed to write about it? Especially with some of the horrid officiating this year to take Howard out of games (most notably the Cavs game).
Shame on you erivera, this article is in direct reference to that series (which is in the same past tense you are asking people not to comment on), and is referencing someone complaining about said series, which directly correlates to jtam’s point. I can see a comment saying you are sick of the referee talk, but don’t act like everyone else should be or shouldn’t talk about something that is still a major issue to Magic fans!

by Eric9321 on Nov 22, 2009 9:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It's just pointless talking about the officials, in my opinion.

Especially when Orlando made the Finals. And especially when the Magic could have ended both the Semifinals and the Conference Finals sooner, regardless of the refs, if BBD and LBJ miss their game-winners. Granted, it could go the other way too, but just saying. Officiating is such an easy target, it’s just a copout. I definitely am aware and wary that the referees can be shoddy at times but when everyone complains that the other team got favorable calls, it’s annoying. Why? Because other fans are going to complain the other way, ultimately creating a vortex of complaints that go nowhere.

And for the record

I agree that it is a viable complaint from Allen, but I disagree that the Celtics would have won the series even if. Just the same as the Celtics wouldn’t have been sure to win if Garnett was in. Things change when you add or remove variables, and not always as one would think…

Yeah, it’s in the past but I’m sure he isn’t the only player that feels that way, about the situation.

actually, I can blame him!

Watch me blame hahahah! Seriously, wtf, Eddy. If there were ever a time to stand up for this team and Rashard, now would be it, but go ahead and keep pandering to non-debate and outrage. This was a crummy, sh*tty thing he said and he’s an ass, pure and simple. To bring it up only invalidates our win over them during the semis even more, something both Boston and the MSM have been desperate to do since game 7! God.

I'm a girl.

I can go buy dhea at the vitamin shoppe today. I honestly dont see what the big deal is. manny ramirez got busted taken hcg – a testosterone boosting agent that has to be either bought illegally or perscribed… a-rod tested positive for methenolone, an anabolic steroid that has to be INJECTED.. and purchased illegally or through a prescription – and was taken specifically because it is harder to detect that other steroids.. Comparing something you can buy from the vitamin shoppe to anabolic steroids purchased illegally is somewhat ridiculous. DHEA is not a controlled substance like other “steroids”. Busting someone for taking DHEA is like banning creatine. Then again, I wouldnt be surprised if it was banned.

Sounds like crying to me

Especially coming right after Orlando wins AGAIN on Boston’s home court.

Even Allen admits that Lewis is a “good dude” and wouldn’t have knowingly taken a banned substance on purpose.

But seriously, if Allen wants to know a legitimate reason why Boston didn’t make the conference finals, he needs to look no further than his own stats for the series:
32/93 (34.4%) fg
8/42 (19.0%) 3fg

No matter when the tests happened

Ray needs to let the league handle how it tests and handles player discipline. Stern, whom most of us [unfairly] assume is working against the Magic, didn’t see fit suspend Lewis at the end of last season……end of story.

by magicfaninTN on Nov 22, 2009 6:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

David Stern isn't working against the Magic.

If he did, Orlando wouldn’t have made it past the Conference Semifinals last year.

If that's the case

The Spurs wouldn’t have played in 4 finals and 2 other Conference Finals over this past decade. The Spurs DO NOT bring high ratings unless the Lakers are playing. And the Lakers always have high ratings.

While I do not like David Stern all that much, he isn’t stupid enough to undermine competitiveness in the NBA for ratings.

Don't agree with Ray Allen saying that

But he can say what he want. Eventually it will die away if the Magic let it. Hopefully they will. This Rashard Lewis took steroids and it made him an All-Star crap is stupid. Rashard Lewis was a skinny mofo in Seattle, and he did many of the things minus the post defense in Seattle. Steroids, last I checked, are not usually part of making a player skinny.

Either way, sour grapes is fine. I say let Ray Allen have his sour grapes.

All Allen’s comments say to me is that he knows the Celtics aren’t good enough to beat the Magic with Lewis playing.

He didn't take steroids, though. He (supposedly) took DHEA.

All the tests revealed was a higher level of testosterone than normal.
