Where are all the JJ haters?

27 point, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and nearly 45 minutes played and no one is shouting how JJ sucks.

How in the world does a soft white guy play that long and that hard?  I'll bet none of the haters are willing to admit that hard work and practice have paid off for JJ.

Come on, suck it up and admit he is a good pro, or are you just going to claim it's just dumb luck he played for 45 minutes and made a couple of shots?

I'm really happy to see him do well

And while i’m not a JJ hater, and I do believe he worked hard, I think he needs to have a few more really good games before we make a big deal about his improvement. He really came through for us yesterday.

This. Exactly this is my sentiment.

I’ve always maintained that he is good enough to be on this team.

by fwedo on Nov 2, 2009 10:47 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed - anyone can play a good game

It’s sustained good play that makes a player good. That said, I’m not a hater, I just think JJ’s on the lower end of the pure talent scale within the NBA. JJ’s gotten into better shape the last couple years, so his hustle is what makes him a player worth having.

I stopped goofing on JJ ever since he hit a game-tying 3 against the Bobcats last year

And his hard work against Ray Allen in the playoffs clinched it for me. I’m hoping this is a sign of more things to come (although I don’t expect 27-6-5 on a regular basis especially when teams start to really hone in on him).

I don't hate JJ

I just…don’t want him to be…alive any longer. See the difference?

Aren’t you the “fan” that forget there was a game on Sunday? Could you forget there is a whole season? Without your negative JJ vibe, he really helps the team, but when you’re thinking about him, it kills his game. Stop with the hate vibe. wink

He played great

Was super confident, played smart, and best of all, hit his shots.

Props to JJ

He stepped up and beyond when we needed him to. Glad he’s on our team when he’s shooting like that.

Stepped into that Duke time machine and came out gunning.

Earned His Props

JJ been a good player since last season. He showed it in the playoffs and did it consistantly enough in the regular season. Inconsistant playing time and scarce minutes will sometimes make him seem like a lesser player production wise but overall he is a good player with the abilities to put up bigger stats given a bigger role and more minutes

I'll wait a few more games before the I told you so comes out.

But for the record, I kinda did told you so on JJ.

It hasn't been just the Raptors game, Redick has played relatively well since the pre-season.

Obviously the numbers against Toronto are impressive, but he’s been playing solid throughout.

Hai guys!

I’m still here and so is my undying hatred for JJ Redick. The guy will no doubt go 0-5 next game from 3 point land thus justifying my irrational hatred. I am not about to change my tune just because he had a good game. What about all the other 375 games he’s played in a Magic uniform.

Yikes.

Redick has proven to be a productive player coming off the bench in the pre-season and in the regular season. Dude just needs consistent minutes, which he’s getting, so that he can chip in and help out.

LOL

justified…. irrational… hatred?! which one?

Wouldn’t JJ haters be happier if they didn’t set their expectations so high? Everybody seems pissed off that we didn’t get a lottery superstar in the draft. And, that he took a while to turn into an NBA player. Isn’t part of the reason JJ looked like a rookie bust named Brian Williams?

IMO, overly high expectations for JJ make everyone disappointed.

But frankly few teams did well in the ‘06 draft. Look at it this way, what if we had drafted:
 Adam Morrison at #3?
 Or Patrick O’Bryant at #9?
Or Mouhamed Sene (out of the league already) at #10?
Or Shawne Williams (out of the league already) at #17 ?

At least JJ contributes more than that. In light of the ’06 draft we did pretty well. He contributes a heck of a lot more than our 2005 pick (Vasquez) or Darko and Arroyo whom we acquired in a trade for our 2007 pick.

IIRC, Rajon Rondo, Thabo Shefolosha, and Ronnie Brewer are the only players taken after JJ in the draft who now start. Rajon is the only one who is All-Star quality. Drafts are always gambles. Of all fans, Orlando fans should realize this, yes? (see also Reece Gaines, Steven Hunter, etc)

I think JJ’s turned into a decent role player at the end of last year/beginning of this one. And yes, it took a few seasons and the right coach for it to happen.

We made the finals last year for peat sake. IMHO, with the exception of Rondo (who, btw, nobody was really high on at draft time), nobody else who was a lower first round pick in 2006 would have pushed us over the top.

/the defense rests. :-) (wishing I had Eddy’s knack for saying the same thing in fewer words)

But, like you say, it’s irrational, so I’ll stop……

I'm very interested in how playing time is going to be split up in the coming weeks

When ‘shard comes back, it would seem like someone’s going to be the odd man out, that SVG won’t use an 11man rotation. The early favorite to be this guy was probably JJ. I don’t know if that’ll be the case anymore. No thats not based on one single game. His play in the playoffs last year was eye opening, even if he wasn’t knocking down his shots.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see JJ picked in favor of Barnes for the last rotation spot at this point. JJ’s decision making just seems to be better at this point.

Going back to college

I am not a Duke fat at all, and so I had never been a JJ fan. When the Magic drafted him I was definitely not a happy camper. JJ started winning me over in the playoffs last year. I thought he would just constantly get lit up on the defensive side, but he has proven to be one scrappy individual. I have to say I can’t hate any more, I am happy for him, I’m glad he’s doing. Excited for the game tonight. Let’s go Magic!

Never hated him to begin with

But he’s taking advantage of the extra gametime to show what he can do. Stan wouldn’t roll with him if he didn’t trust him, and I trust Stan.

by eltharion_doa on Nov 4, 2009 11:07 PM EST reply actions

Never really thought he would amount to much

He could never create his own shot in college but it seems as though his hard work has paid off. I’m not ready to sit here and say he’s a great player though until he has these types of performances consistently. If he does…then the Magic are going to super explosive on offense.

Redick has definitely worked hard, that's for sure.

And he rarely gets enough credit for putting in the work to be a better player.

"And finally, SG J.J. Redick, who tweaked his ankle yesterday, was having trouble moving laterally in practice."

See? This is what happens – he plays well, and turns into a fragile little glass player!

Just kiddin’, but dang we’ve had bad luck with the injury/sickness bug to start the year.
