"I have no idea how it happened, but I just kept playing on it in the game,’’ [Jameer] Nelson said on Tuesday. "I played through the pain and I didn’t really notice the swelling until after the game. I just thought that I sprained my knee and would deal with it in treatment. But as soon as I woke up (on Tuesday) I knew that it was worse than I thought.’’

Doesn't the name Marcin Gortat ring any bells?

Oh you mean that big man that the Magic developed and then resigned because they wanted to retain his services?
What about him?

I guess he's inferring that it's karmic the Magic are in the position it's in because ..
Otis Smith was coy enough to sign Brandon Bass and re-sign Marcin Gortat.

The Mavericks did Smith a favor with the Marion trade
They didn’t need the Magic to make the trade work, but they did it anyway. And Gortat put it clear that he wanted to go to Dallas, because he would have been the starting center there.
I’m totally OK with the Bass signing, because he deserved more minutes, minutes that he wasn’t getting as Dirk’s backup, but the same exactly happened with Gortat and his 12 mpg behind Dwight Howard, and Smith showed an absolute lack of class by cutting Gortat’s wings.

He didn't show a lack of class, he was being a smart general manager.
Otis Smith was protecting an asset and Marcin Gortat understands that.

Honestly I was thinking the same thing as mg4tx
I think he injured himself when he “forced” the clear-path foul on Gerald Wallace late in the 4th. It looked like Wallace landed on Jameer’s body, and perhaps on the knee.
Again, nothing against Nelson, as it was an extremely smart play that showed his ability to understand the situation (refs just called a clear-path on Vince, so you basically force them to call one on your side if you even hint at one), but he clearly initiated the contact (I won’t use “faked”, as that’s too strong). In a way, he paid for it. Assuming that’s how he injured it of course.
It sounds like i’m hating on Jameer, but I’m really not trying to, hopefully that came across well.
