Orlando Magic 102, Memphis Grizzlies 83: Immediate Postgame Comment Thread

No Jameer Nelson. No Vince Carter. No Brandon Bass. No problem.

The Orlando Magic continued its winning ways by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies, 102-83, to push its record to 4-0 in pre-season play. As has been the norm since NBA play has resumed in the month of October, the Magic benefitted from a balanced attack, as six players finished the game in double-figures. Mickael Pietrus led Orlando with 19 points (7-13 from the field, 3-6 beyond the arc). J.J. Redick continues to impress in exhibition play, chipping in with 15 points and 5 assists. After not playing against the Houston Rockets last week, Dwight Howard returned to action and posted a double-double, with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 block.

Memphis was led by rookie Sam Young, who had a game-high 22 points (on only 13 shots) in 37 minutes. Hasheem Thabeet, the Grizzlies' prized lottery pick, was scoreless in 18 minutes, attempting only one field goal but notching 3 blocks.

I can’t say it enough…preseason or not…this team is on a mission. They got jobbed in the Finals by a team they were clearly better than…they still don’t get respect…and they retooled their roster. If they were any other big market team, they would be clear cut favorites. Just wait and see, in a month people are going to be shocked at how much of a monster this team has become. God bless you Turk, but your departure may be a blessing in disguise. 4-0 at this juncture is a sign…its a sign cause they get the job done regardless of who plays and who starts.

I think you're right. I don't think there is a limit to how good this team can be.

Talent, depth, and coaching for this Magic team are on another level from even some of the best teams we’ve seen in recent years — recent champions that is.

It's exciting to watch, but as a long-time Magic fan, I can't help but proceed with caution.

That being said, I’m encouraged by how Orlando has been playing in the pre-season.

Well I know one thing...

It may be pre-season, true enough, but the players on these other teams are playing hard to earn roster spots/mins/etc., and we’re just resting players whenever wwe get ready… Hold on…we get to REST PLAYERS…in pre-season?? This team is coasting right now, believe it or not. When Game 1 of 82 starts, the league is in for a RUDE AWAKENING!!

This pre-season means something for the Magic.

The team needs to develop chemistry on the court, as they have been doing off the court.
