The Orlando Magic will attempt to continue their winning ways--and to improve their struggling defense--tonight when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies in preseason action. The Grizzlies are in a fairly unusual predicament, as far as preseason ball in concerned, as they played last night in Dallas, where their 26 turnovers contributed to a 114-107 defeat. Coincidentally, tonight marks the first game of a back-to-back set for the Magic, who will play the New Orleans Hornets tomorrow in Wichita. It's highly possible that both teams will feature their stars less tonight in order to conserve energy.
As I mentioned earlier, the Magic's top priority is defense, as they have not dazzled on that side of the ball in the early going. And from an individual standpoint, Vince Carter will look to correct his poor shooting by driving to the basket more often. Make no mistake: Orlando may be undefeated, but there's still plenty of work for it to do.
For more on the Grizzlies, visit Straight Outta Vancouver, SB Nation's new and excellent Memphis-centric blog. For instance, here's djturtleface's take on the potential Rudy Gay/Rashard Lewis matchup:
Rudy vs. Rashard vs. Learning- Rashard Lewis is the yin to Rudy's yang. Lewis is the ultimate manifestation of a technically proficient Rudy, while Rudy is the pure energy and athleticism 'Shard lacks to become a superstar. Look for the two to fuse into one being during the game.
I'll update the lineup chart once the real starting lineup becomes available. See you at tipoff.
UPDATE (from the Orlando Sentinel):
Magic PG Jason Williams, who played for Memphis for four seasons and worked out for the Grizzlies during his free-agent tour this summer, will start tonight against the Griz.
Starting PG Jameer Nelson will have the night off to rest as will starting SG Vince Carter.
Also in the starting lineup for the Magic as Coach Stan Van Gundy continues to experiment and give his starters at least one game off this preseason: C Dwight Howard, SG Mickael Pietrus, SF Matt Barnes and PF Rashard Lewis.

Why?
This has nothing to do with Grizzlies…The winners get to write history…Is it the size of our market (the media has fried brains from visiting our amusement parks in June ot July-when we are smart enough to go in November-April?), lack of a police blotter or…Most writers have at least a basic knowledge of basketball, so I thought, the guys here certainly have knowledge, or did writers only finish journalism school and “learn” American (English). Why do they continue to overlook the Magic? Games ain’t <—-(it’s in the dictionary) played on paper but it seems to me if I arrived from some other star’s planet and had to pick an organization THIS year, the Magic would be top 3, maybe 4. When I read the Wizards or Blazers above us I got to believe it’s all about being the one at the end who says, “See I went out on a limb and picked…” If every team in the league doesn’t have an injury and lose a game played to a rolled ankle or dislocated finger, my limited experience says Magic win 59-64 games, with a team built (deep) for the playoffs. Thoughts?
I think your projection of 59-64 wins is an extremely accurate one.

Im predicting 60 even
Because towards the end of the season I think SVG will once again rest our boys to get them ready for the POs just like last season.

He may not have the luxury to do that, given that seeding matters a lot this season.

Can someone please post a link if somehow the game will be shown online somewhere?
Thanks in advance…

No luck on my end, couldn't find a stream.
Guess the locals (Memphis) aren’t televising it.

I don't understand
I go onto the 580 AM website and I never hear the game. Could the actual radio be different than the website?
I had this same problem
I went there also and was confused that I wasn’t able to hear the game.

Via NBA rule, you're not allowed to listen to games online.

Final Score: MAGIC 102-GRIZZLIES 83
An old-fashioned BEATDOWN!! And that was WITHOUT Jameer & VC! I know it’s pre-season, but that’s still impressive.
J.J. had an im[pressive outing w/15 pt/5 ast/ 3-4 3pt
Not bad off the bench…Pietrus led with 19 pts/5 reb/3-6 3pt….Dwight had a quiet 15 pt/11 reb & Barnes was also great w/14 pt/9 reb/3 ast. Overall 6 player in double figures. Good game.
Don't say that about JJ, TGS might hear you!
No really, JJ has been pretty impressive this preseason.
I'm just stating the facts man!
It’s good to know that your 11th man can play when needed! A nice luxury indeed! Of course A.J. didn’t do ANYTHING to suggest that he is worthy of the 2nd PG spot…only 1 pt and 2 ast (4 TO’s…ouch) in over 20 mins!! And that was against the Grizzlies…Yikes!! J-Will wasn’t a stud either statistically, but his NET +/- was +26!! WOW
from ESPN write up
But Orlando answered quickly with Redick scoring five points during an 8-0 run.
Nice JJ.

Some of the press photos from tonight’s game are pretty funny:
- - What is JJ doing?
- - The look on AJ’s face.
#8/9 (same photo) Pietrus and Rudy Gay doing some Dancing with the Stars pose. lol.
That's a funny photo.

I can just picture AJ saying:
“Boy, do you even know who I am? You can’t guard me; I eat whippersnappers like you for lunch.”

- - JJ looks like he’s in the middle of one of the patented Duke Flops, after taking an air punch.
- - AJ – “You sure you wanna get that close to the People’s Elbow?”
- - The only thing Iverson has taught Thabeet – thug style
- - Thabeet – “His muscles are as big as my head!”
- - Barnes – “Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him well.”
- - Zach Randolph regrets eating that third Twinkie before the game
