3QC Mid-Season Awards: Most Improved Player

Since the first-half of the season has gone by for the Orlando Magic, it's time to present the inaugural Third Quarter Collapse Mid-Season Awards. Instead of conducting a regular poll, we at 3QC have decided for you to vote and comment which Magic player you feel is most deserving of each award.

Who do you feel is the Most Improved Player?

The results will be complied & announced on Sunday.

Jameer Nelson

I love how he is now fearlessly dribbling between defenders and into the middle of traffic to disrupt defenses.

I'm going out on a limb.....

Dwight Howard. Check this out

Career 16.9ppg 1.93 BLK 12.4RPG
Season 20.2ppg 3.21 BLK 14.1RPG

Steals are slightly up, Turnovers are slightly down.

Jameers numbers are comprable if not better, but I just wanted to throw this out there FYI.

However....

my vote goes to Jameer.

Dwight Howard

his numbers are off the charts this year, and he’s matured so much.

But

his numbers are nearly identical to last season. Howard may be MVP, but most improved has to be Nelson.

let me dissent >:|

also, what UNFNOLE said:

Season 20.2ppg 3.21 BLK 14.1RPG

It’s more than just numbers. He’s a different person out there. He rarely complains anymore about non-calls, he goes out there every night and just plays his heart out. Nelson’s been amazing, but I’m more impressed with Dwight’s development.

by TheGiantSquid on Jan 21, 2009 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

If that's the case....

Career 12.3 ppg 46.5% FG 38.7% 3pt 80% FT
Season 17.1 ppg 51.1% FG 45.4 % 3pt 87.5% FT

Howard has been getting gradually more dominant each season…and will continue to do so. Nelson has transformed himself from a marginal PG into the guy you want to have the ball with the game on the line.

It’s a tough argument (and great for the state of the Magic that we’re having it), so I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one:)

"so I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one"

yeah I guess having differing opinions is bad, innit. It was a comment. On a blog. About basketball.

Rhaegar fought valiantly, Rhaegar fought nobly, Rhaegar fought honourably. And Rhaegar died.

you all do realize this isn't REAL, right?

I’m tired of defending myself over something so ridiculous. My vote has no actual affect on anything. It isn’t real, and why steve-o1285 felt it necessary to tear apart my opinion on a blog is beyond me. I’ve already wasted enough energy on this. I’m going to the game tonight and I’m forgetting about this.

Are you kidding?

Tear apart? I gave you my opinion. It was for discussion purposes…Good God, get over it.

Relax.

I’m for friendly banter & arguments, but no need to take it too far.

Both of you make good points, just relax! Thanks.

Nelson

He takes this one easily. He is playing at an all star level and looking like one of the best guards in the league. Tremendous.

Jameer

Found the right “balance” of when to score and when to pass. Just playing lights out.

Jameer. If we were going other than Jameer...

without a doubt, ‘Shard. The man has hit big shot after big shots, proved he has ice water in his game, contested game winner in Philly, leads the NBA in 3PM and 3P%. No one should be griping about his contract now. Ok, it’s a bit ridiculous, but if we win this year, all is good with me!

Jameer. Easy choice.

Statistically and by the simple naked eye, he’s blossomed from a borderline starter to a a legitimate All-Star.

Jameer

Without his improvement the Magic win a few more games than last year. Instead we’re a championship contender with the League’s best record.

Jameer in a runaway

The leap from good to all-star is a big one. Let alone the leap Jameer made from benched in the fourth quarter at times to championship caliber point guard

Jameer

I think that this is pretty redundant to Most Surprising.

If you're not having fun, stop participating.

by redandblue on Jan 21, 2009 9:45 PM EST reply actions

Granted...

Jameer had an off season last year — if this season had followed his 2005-06 season, it would seem like a natural development. And after the tragic events of last season, it’s not surprising he was off. But this year… well, this year, he’s amazing. He’s like if Tony Parker had Steve Kerr’s three-point shot. Going into the season, our backcourt was a big question mark — at this point, Jameer is arguably the no. 2 guy on this team. And yes, Hedo started the season slow… but Lewis is the same deadly scorer and borderline All-Star candidate he’s always been. Nelson’s just been better.

Jameer Nelson

Without him we’re no better than a 4 or 5 seed. Think of how much of a drop this team could take if Nelson (god forbid) suffered a season ending injury. His numbers are career highs and he is the heart of this team.
