Brandon Bass. Anyone Think He Might Be A Good Fit?

You know the drill. New week, new showcased fanpost. This week 3QC member TragicMatt poses a trade scenario involving a certain Dallas Mavericks player. Do you agree/disagree with him? Recently, there has been talk that the Dallas Mavericks may be shopping Brandon Bass around the league. He seems like a good fit for the Magic in multiple ways:
1) Hard-working PF who can rebound. Also, very athletic. Imagine a big lineup of Jameer, Turk, Shard, Bass, and Dwight. That would be unstoppable if you ask me.
2) Cap-friendly contract (less than 1MM)
I don't know what it would take to trade for him, or how to match the contracts, but maybe something like this (salaries match on ESPN trade machine):
Orlando gets:
Brandon Bass, Jerry Stackhouse (Expiring contract/on the trading bock)
Dallas gets:
JJ Redick, Brian Cook
Essentially, Dallas gets another talented wing player as well as a "big" body to replace Bass' minutes. Orlando gets the bruising, athletic 4 they are looking for.
What do you all think? Would you make this trade? Would Dallas make this trade?

Bass and Stack are on the block
But I imagine the Mavs would want more than J.J. and Cookie Monster for them. Seems like they could get a better offer.
I’ve long admired Bass’ game, though. I think he’d be a great fit here.
We don't need Bass .. not now at least.
The Magic have more pressing needs at PG (back-up).

I agree with erivera
I like Gortat and Battie off the bench, wouldn’t want to mess with that. I also don’t want to get rid of JJ right now, he’s just playing too good.
Never thought I’d say that.
On the other hand, now might be the perfect time to shift JJ whilst he’s showing he can ball in the NBA. Which has not been a given for the past 3 years.
I’m not sure we’d give up two guys who can hit the three for a bruiser and yet another two guard. Maybe if the Mavs could give us a backup point we’d make the switch.

J.J. Barea is having a helluva year. i doubt they're ready to dump him.
But if that rumored trade goes through, the one which would send Raymond Felton to Dallas, Barea would once again be their third PG.

That's a great point actually .. about moving J.J. when his value is at its highest its ever been.
But it’s tough .. because the Magic would need to make a deal that makes sense on a lot of levels. Clearly the team would need to address a need, as well as cover the fact the team would be giving up a shooter, salary, etc.
Excellent suggestion though.

We need a backup pg, that’s the only reason for this team to trade Bogans, Reddick, or Cook.
Personally, I’m pretty high on Roko Ukic. I wonder what it would take to get him out of
Toronto.

Ukic has a PER of less than 11. That’s better than AJ, for sure, but the Magic can do better.

This wouldn't be a stopgap trade.
I don’t think a backup PG is necessary right now. This trade will solidify the future.
As for another PG, that can be filled via Free Agency. Remember, Battie’s contract is expiring, and he would be expendable if Bass came to Orlando.
I’m not so worried about finding a PG for this year, as I am for setting this team up for the duration of Dwight/Meer/Sheed/Pietrus’ contracts (4+ years).
That's fine, but that still doesn't change the fact Orlando needs to address its back-up PG issue now.
Bass would be a nice piece for the future, sure, but the Magic have to concern themselves with the here and now. Because of this fact, finding an upgrade at PG over Anthony Johnson before the trading deadline should be GM Otis Smith’s #1 priority.

Yes we could use a back up PG
BUT getting Bass would be to good to pass up imo. Yes BIG minutes are limited with Howard and Lewis as the starters but Bass is a high impact guy that could battle guys like McDyess for us. If this deal is on the table than I’d have to go for it. We can always rent a pg via the 10 day contract to find a fit. That is basically what Wilks was, talent wise anyways.

Back up PG more important
Bass is a good player and a year ago i would have loved to have him. But I prefer Battie over him and a backup PG is of more need to this team. If Jameer gets hurt again, AJ would be logging 30+ minutes and that is not a good thing for us.
Luther Head, Ramon Sessions, Travis Diener are guys we can get with just Bogans contract that would fit more what we are looking for.

Yes on the Bass move. No on the Haslem move.
To me, Brandon Bass is similar to Paul Millsap a bruiser we could use for rebounding and lane occupying purposes, he’s not the traditional Van Gundy 3 pt shooting PF (ala Rashard Lewis/Turk ) but he does the dirty work that needs to be done to get another possession here and there. Plus, it’s for JJ and Cook, so that’s a yes from me. JJ needs to be moved now while his stock is OK.
Haslem move, no. I like Battie and Gortat off the bench, although I respect Haslem game alot, I wouldnt play around with team chemistry right now. Pietrus is a poor man’s Ron Artest and that’s a player you don’t wanna let go….ever.
I'm not hating on the move per se, but not at this juncture.
As I said earlier in this comment section, the Magic have more pressing needs at back-up PG.

I can’t see the Mavs being interested in that trade, I think Bass has too much value to them as a player. Bass is a free agent this summer though, am I right on that? I think he is. He’d be a nice acquisition at that point.
Good defense, very athletic and mobile. He’s got a very good jump shot for a big man which is important, he can continue to space the floor and play alongside Dwight. Decent rebounder. Tough player too.
I think he’d be a good fit on the Magic.
