Maurice Evans Signs with Atlanta Hawks, Who Are Not the Golden State Warriors

After verbally agreeing to sign with Golden State earlier this week, Maurice Evans backed out and asked for more money. The Warriors said, "Thanks, but no thanks," and instead matched the offer sheet Kelenna Azubuike signed with the Clippers. Neener neener, Baron Stealers!

Evans has found a home in Atlanta, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (ht: Hoopinion). Evans was as good as gone the moment Keith Bogans told the team he would exercise his player option this season, so this signing means little to us. We'll get to see him roast us -- the Hawks always roast us, it seems -- four times a year. It also means he'll play 41 games a year in the building in which he set his NBA career-high last April. Good times.

Good pick up for the Hawks, he’s still being underpaid in my opinion. Guess the money isn’t out there right now.

If Childress didn't get any money from the Hawks

Evans wasn’t likely to get money anywhere else.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get tangled, you tango on

I'll miss him

I’d much rather have Mo Evans than Pietrus.

Me too

Even though I’m biased and always thought Mo was underrated in his one year as a King.

Don’t understand that. Pietrus is more athletic and bigger. Also a better defender.

I will admit though, he was fun guy to root for.

I just have my doubts about Pietrus

Not sure how effective he really is. Who knows, maybe he’ll prove me wrong.

Pietrus is younger, also. Evans will be 30 in November, and Pietrus is 26 and won’t turn 27 until February.

I thought Evans did a nice job with the Magic, but I applaud the Pietrus signing and with the drafting of Courtney Lee, the SG position should be much-improved this coming season.

Agreed on all counts

I love Mogans and I hate to see him go, but at the same time, Pietrus is an upgrade.

Now it’s time to trade one of those SG’s for a second string point guard. The way things are going, I trust that Otis will get the job done.

"I trust that Otis will get the job done."

The fact that any Magic fan has made this statement speaks to the organization’s progress from a year ago.

With that said, I also said here that if Otis didn’t sign Maggette to the MLE the offseason would be a failure. So what do I know.

Ouch

The Hawks are replacing Childress with Evans?

Anyway, good for Evans, he is a good sixth man, just not a starter. I wish him the best.
