Denton: Magic Held Private Workouts with Five PFs Earlier Today

Finally, a report from the Magic's workouts today. John Denton is, as usual, a lifesaver. As Tim Povtak previously reported, Joey Dorsey, Marreese Speights, and D.J. White were in attendance. Denton adds that the team took a look at Ryan Anderson and Jason Thompson as well. Here's an interesting quote from Otis Smith (via Denton, natch) on his philosophy regarding these workouts:

"We put more into the sit-down, face-to-face interviews with these kids than we do with the workouts because we’ve seen them play enough all season."

Certainly not huge news, but it's worth noting because now we have a better idea of who's on the Magic's radar. They've scheduled four shooting guards to work out tomorrow morning, and if they plan on testing any other positions, I haven't heard about it. Even the most casual of Magic observers can agree that power forward and shooting guard are the team's weakest positions going into next season. The fact that the team has only scheduled workouts with players at those two positions lets us know that Smith agrees with the assessment many of us share.

Not a bad group of bigs. Spieghts would obviously be a steal at 22, and the rest would be reaches there, but I suspect that is what the 2cd round pick will be for. Dorsey with a 2cd round pick would be ideal, he is long and strong, and in just 25 minutes of play averaged 9.5 rebounds and over 1 block a game. In other words, DRAFT HIM OTIS!
