NBA Will Fine Floppers Next Season

Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports the NBA announced it plans to fine players for "egregious" flops starting next season. Bravo to the league for wanting to crack down on this abhorrent defensive "technique". I just wish they planned to punish teams in actual games. If the fines successfully deter flopping, Dwight Howard might actually be allowed to post up every once in a while. Hooray.

I know I've posted this video several times before, but here it is again: Pau Gasol flopping against the Magi three times in a single game earlier this season. He got Hedo Turkoglu once and Howard twice. Perhaps he would not have flopped the second and third times if the officials penalized him and the Lakers, perhaps with a technical foul.

I love that video, and how David Steele and Matt Goukas just flat out say Gasol is flopping :D That’s it, boys, call it like it is.

Personally, I was extremely impressed with the Spurs flopping in game 6 of the Spurs/Hornets series m’self. Spurs did some of their finest work in that game.

Giving players fines is a start, but in the future, either calling fouls against or just not calling fouls PERIOD will likely need to be implemented.

I’m glad that the league isn’t just turning an eye away from this epidemic. However, before the season started, they said that refs would crack down on the problem. So now the question is, is this just all talk again, or are we going to see some actual changes?

I like the new layout, by the way. Slick.
