Derrick Rose is so talented that he can, with some help from his backcourt-mate Ben Gordon, cover up for Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro's baffling personnel moves. Andres Nocioni is not a viable NBA center, but the Bulls win with him there anyway.
Del Negro will not outcoach Stan Van Gundy. It'll come down to execution. The Magic have been spotty in that area lately, notably for the final quarter against Detroit. Get the ball inside to Dwight, because the Bulls have nobody down low. I need not even append that statement with, "who can stop Dwight." The Bulls quite literally do not have a polished post player, and haven't since... um... ever? Marcin Gortat could start for them.
Tip's at 2 PM so everyone will be home in time to celebrate the new year. Let's end the 2008 calendar year with a bang, just like we did last year. Get a hand in Gordon's face, and go Magic.

Wow, you are right. Marcin could start for them....
I’m of a mind to check and see how many teams Marcin actually could start for. I think it’d be more than 1. I really hope we lock him up and develop him along side Dwight and not always just backing him up.

what a depressingly accurate preview :)

Gotta work, gonna have to follow this one on NBA.com. Important game, gonna put together another big win streak. Not only that, but we didn’t lose any ground with Cleveland and Boston going down last night. Today is an oppurtunity to cut their lead, even if it’s only by a half of a game. Go Magic, take care of business.
What the Bulls announcers are saying so far
… If the Magic went to Dwight Howard more often, they would truly be an elite team in this league…
… the Magic have an outstanding record, but they have played a weak schedule…
Excuse me? In the last three weeks the Magic have beaten Portland and Utah on the road, along with home wins against the Spurs, Lakers, and Hornets.

Hinrich...
is expected back sometime in the next month from his fractured thumb.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:17 PM EST up reply actions
That's good to hear
I’ve always liked him and felt bad when he had that horrible slump (was it last year?), like he’d regressed or something. I hope he can turn it around.
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
Yes. it was last year
The Bulls have a glut of players at guard, though. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects Hinrich’s playing time when he does come back.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:19 PM EST up reply actions
I know
He’d be like the forgotten guy…is the team interested in keeping him?
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
The Bulls have always liked Hinrich...
I doubt if they would trade him. They like his defense, which is what the Bulls are lacking now.

UCF is closed
So here I am…we have five days off (including the holiday and weekend), same as last week
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
I wish we were closed :(
but I missed work on Monday b/c I was sick, so I needed to come in to make up some time.

I'm happy you're feeling better, then
Unless you’re working while sick, which is the worst!

So you're making up your missed work time by following the Magic at work on your computer :-)

It's too easy to get used to having five days off, I have to say
I hated going back to work this week after last week’s break and it was only for two days

Thabo's playing because of the injury to Gooden
Del Negro wants to go with a smaller lineup with Gooden out.

lol maybe
he just seems to try really hard. I dunno.
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:21 PM EST up reply actions
yeah he's probably got a little too much baby fat leftover
I think he could be really good, though
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:24 PM EST up reply actions
Actually, he's been a good "energy" player for the Bulls at times this season
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:31 PM EST reply actions
Nocioni could give the Bulls a lift here
… he’s a good shooter and great energy player.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:34 PM EST reply actions
lmao one of our guys almost lost the ball
I could tell how it was, though. Tried to dribble it behind his back and the ball just kind of floated away.
Did you guys see/read about what happened in the POR/BOS game
Portland at one point had six players on the floor and the sixth player scored…the Celtics complain about it, the refs give Portland a technical, but the two points were not wiped out. I absolutely hate the Celtics, but wow…refs fell asleep there!
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
yes! omg I actually felt bad for the Celtics
how does a Ref not notice 6 players?! Completely ridiculous that the basket counted, too.
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:38 PM EST up reply actions
It happened in the first, so it wasn't that huge of a deal
But still, it’s a big deal. Oh well, Boston still lost! Mwahaha!
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
I thought it happened right before the half
heh, yeah, the Celtics losing will always bring a smile to my face. I would feel more sorry for that crap call if KG hadn’t proceeded to act like a prick the rest of the game.
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:40 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, I can't stand KG now
It’s a shame that the Magic didn’t beat Detroit after Cleveland and Boston both lost yesterday…they could have made some ground
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
yeah, losing to Detroit was awful
but we didn’t lose any ground, either, so a win today would keep pushing us closer to the top.
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:43 PM EST up reply actions
Ha
These “I don’t smoke, I don’t dip, I don’t chew” ads crack me up. I first saw them during the baseball season with the Rays. Dwight’s the only one who reads his with any emotion, haha.
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
Hedo's is just awful
and Rashard sounds so bored XD
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:39 PM EST up reply actions
What makes me laugh is how they are all shot the same
Like half the face out of the frame, zoomed in, etc.
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
lmao there are very few pro players out there that are personable in front of the camera
luckily, Dwight is one of those few. Jameer’s okay too. But Rashard? LMAO.
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 2:46 PM EST up reply actions
I've only heard his, on the radio
I don’t think I’ve seen his…I’ve seen Pietrus and maybe Bogans, along with Dwight, Rashard, and Hedo
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
I've only ever seen Hedo's, Rashard's, Dwight's, and Jameer's
man, I’ve been missing out!

They're not on the website. Believe me, I've looked.
All-time fave is Pietrus’. I love his accent.
Foyle’s is good, too.
“I am Adonal Foyle of the Orlando Magic and I am tuhBAHgofree.”
Great stuff.
Marie... I know you're a Mavs fan too...
What did you think of their great comeback last night against Minnesota after trailing 70-41? Mavs won the game 107-100.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:39 PM EST reply actions
Oh my God
I couldn’t fall asleep, I was so pumped. They had no business being down 29 to the T-wolves, but wow, that was an amazing comeback. It was a completely different team in the second half…they actually fixed their mistakes by playing intense defense, going inside, hustling…wow.
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
It was their biggest comeback in franchise history
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:43 PM EST up reply actions
Yes, it was
That second half was just beautiful to watch. Kidd’s passes were jaw-droppingly awesome, Dirk was tough and fired up, Josh was playing smart, Terry was hitting big shots, and Damp was solid in the post.
Recommended listening: "Little Joy" by Little Joy
Again... the Bulls announcers are dissing the Magic because of their "easy" schedule so far
… saying that the Magic have beaten too many of the bottom-feeders of the league.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 2:42 PM EST reply actions
Cleveland also had an easy schedule
No one talks about that

if you get your internet via Brighthouse, it might be able to affect internet access to those channels as well.

if you go the websites for MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central, there’s a pop-up warning visitors with Bright House that they won’t have access to neither the channels nor the websites if TW and Viacom don’t reach a settlement. The pop-up claims the block will begin tonight at midnight.

definitely
but Rose hasn’t had quite the immediate affect on the Bulls that people were probably hoping for. I think it’ll be a few more years, but his impact will definitely be felt..
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 3:44 PM EST up reply actions
I'd disagree
.. his impact has been felt. He’s already the team leader (helps being the PG), but in terms of the team having an impact, he needs a better supporting cast.
Senior Writer for DePaul's Scout.com website
no, you're right
I just meant…people were probably hoping for a Celtics-esqu turnaround, but the Bulls are still below .500
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 31, 2008 3:46 PM EST up reply actions
No, no way ..
The most I saw the Bulls accomplishing was a .500 record at best .. they have too many flaws. They have some nice pieces, but they need an elite big man to compliment Rose.
As for Rose’s shooting, it’s be been better than it was when he was at Memphis, but he still needs more consistency. Once he develops that, like I said .. it’s over, because he’ll be un-guardable.

:-/ hurm
I think I’ll leave, then. I can always listen in on the radio. :)

The Mavs at least had two quarters to work with
Chicago would just have the 4th…if they somehow pull that off…wow. But you’re right, we’re a lot better than Minnesota and SVG knows when to call timeouts (unlike McHale, who had timeouts to spare and, for some strange reason, did not tell his players to foul with less than a minute left and the Dallas lead was only 5).

When Minny was up 70-41, how much time was left in the third... do you remember?
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 31, 2008 3:55 PM EST up reply actions
Okay, I found it
The Mavericks trailed 70-41 less than two minutes into the third quarter.

Oh OK... so the Mavs did have a lot of time to come back

Marie... do you remember the Mavs epic collapse against the Lakers in 2002?
I think the Mavs led the Lakers by something like 26 points entering the fourth and somehow they lost the game!

Ugh, yes
I don’t know what it is with Mavs vs. Lakers…their games are usually entertaining and pretty close.

I think that was the greatest fourth quarter comeback in NBA history

Another dubious record related to the Mavericks...

I bet you still haven't gotten over the Mavs' collapse in the 2006 Finals against the Heat
…losing 4 games in a row after winning the first two and having a big lead in Game 3

88-60 Magic after three
Magic are still shooting over 50 pct at 33 of 65… 10 of 24 from three point range

I have yet to see any of these new "Where___Happens" commercials
that feature a single Magic player. What’s up with that >:|

All time classic line:
Matt Goukas: “Marcin Gortat would probably be an all-star if he played with the Chicago Bulls”
I bet Matty Goukas reads this blog.
He just made the comment that Marcin would be an All-Star if he played on this team. Where did that come from besides this blog?
Stacie King just said...
… Marcin Gortat looks like a hall-of-famer…

If nothing else...
Marcin should at least be in the mascot Hall of Fame for his “Dunk over Multiple Mascots” fiasco
HAHAHA
I’m sorry, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that. I’m cracking up

Magic... 7 players in double figures!

Great job, guys
Recovering from that Detroit game to take care of business in Chicago from beginning to end. Way to end the year!

Listened to the rest of the game on the way home
lemme just say, Richie Adubato is comedic gold. I could listen to that man’s ramblings for hours.
Great job, Magic! :D Happy New Year, everyone!
