The Orlando Magic will try to extend their winning streak to five games when they take on the potentially new-look Phoenix Suns in the desert tonight. The Suns traded for shooting guard, three-point assassin, and dunker extraordinaire Jason Richardson on Wednesday, and there's a chance he, along with Jared Dudley, will be available tonight. I'd much rather their flight get delayed, or something. Phoenix will already be without starting center Shaquille O'Neal, who will be traveling back from attending a family funeral. It'd be nice to face a team at much less than full strength, especially since the Magic are fairly healthy.
However, the Suns, even at less than 100%, are still deadly. They had only eight men available to play Wednesday night against the full-strength/deadly Los Angeles Lakers, and still managed to only lose by five. Much of that has to do with Matt Barnes' lighting up from downtown--he sank 5 of his 11 three-point attempts--but the fact stands: the Suns are still quite good.
Tune in to Sun Sports at 9 to watch Jameer Nelson blow by Steve Nash and Dwight Howard dunk on Amare Stoudemire. Go Magic.

… he’s got 12 points and 4 rebounds already

I take it you're not a big GHill fan, TGS

I'm just as disappointed as anyone his Magic career was so injury-plagued...
… but he’s a class guy and for that I’ll always respect him.

Magic 33 Suns 28 after one
Magic shooting 13 of 23 for 56; the Suns 11 of 24 for 46… rebounding even at 11.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 9:39 PM EST reply actions
4-9 from the three
then Magic get a illegal defense thing whatever but Barbossa misses the FT.
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 12, 2008 9:42 PM EST up reply actions
A three for GHill...
… he was only shooting 23% on threes so far this season.

Magic 6 of 8 shooting this quarter

… but that’s hard to do on the road against a good Suns team.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 10:07 PM EST reply actions
Anyone watching the Phoenix broadcast?
The announcers sure aren’t concerned with letting their biases show.
Nash is averaging what... 15 points a game... he's got 17 already at the half
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 10:13 PM EST reply actions
Magic might want to close out the Suns' shooters
Nash is 4-4 from deep, including the last shot of the half. He was wide the F open.
Magic made only 3 of their final 14 shots in the second
… they are now 22 of 45 for 48.9; the Suns are 24 of 46 for 52.2.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 10:15 PM EST reply actions
Rushing garbage shots will do that to you.
Not worried. The Magic are the more talented team. I just hope Stoudemire doesn’t heat up in the second half.

Rebounds are even at 21; Suns have 6 turnovers, the Magic 5 turnovers
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 10:17 PM EST reply actions
that's a bright spot
Magic win games in which they have fewer TOs than the opponent
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 12, 2008 10:18 PM EST up reply actions
Now if only they could stop themselves from taking stupid shots
The long rebounds on 3s act as TOs because they ignite the Suns’ break.
by Evan Dunlap on Dec 12, 2008 10:19 PM EST up reply actions
...and the Magic had an outstanding 26/7 assist/turnover ratio against Portland
It’s 12/5 this game, which is pretty good.

we’ve just got to take better shots

Magic 7 for 16 on threes for 43.8%
…with Bogans going 3 for 4 on threes.

The Magic may consider guarding that Stoudemire fellow
That lead vanished in a hurry.
Magic gonna get smoked if they aren’t careful.
Stoudamire only scored 9 in the first half
… so yeah, he’s due to have a much better second half.

I rarely use that word at this site. Sorry.

Haha, the announcers said the officials blew the call because Grant Hill argued it afterward.. and Grant Hil never argues, so if he does, you know he's right

Howard went to the locker room with the team therapist. Speculation by the sideline reporter is that he's getting his oblique worked on.
Magic 1 for 8 shooting this quarter so far
… they’ve made only 4 of their last 22 shots… even colder than the temp here in the Chicago ’burbs!

this game's gotten pretty out of control
I don’t think we’ll pull this one out, thought I’ve (thankfully) been wrong before.
Turk... 2 of 12 shooting for 8 points
… maybe has a slight hangover from his game-winner the other night.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 10:42 PM EST reply actions
maybe he'll come back with a vengeance in the fourth
*hopeful look *

Agreed.
As much as well all love AJ… I think we could benefit from some Lee instead.
Can't put Lee on the floor without Turk
And Turk is playing like crap

First points of the year for the Polish Hammer

Please tell me y'all just caught that Shaq highlight reel set to Smashing Pumpkin on the justin.tv feed
That was one of the best things ever.
Magic were outscored 27-16 in the third...
they wound up shooting 4 of 18 from the field.

if we don’t make some stops, we won’t make up the difference, and it’ll all be for nought
by TheGiantSquid on Dec 12, 2008 11:05 PM EST up reply actions
I can't believe they just gave Louis Amundsun that call
However, the Magic have caught their share of breaks in this game. Not gonna worry about it.
After a great night by Turk and Lewis against Portland...
… when they combined for 51 points, they have combined for just 25 points tonight on 7 of 27 shooting.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 11:05 PM EST reply actions
Mostly Turk's fault
He’s stinking up the joint.
by Evan Dunlap on Dec 12, 2008 11:06 PM EST up reply actions
Magic 13 for 26 on threes...
but Suns are shooting 10 of 17 on threes.
by Mike from Illinois on Dec 12, 2008 11:08 PM EST reply actions
Haha, this random highlight reel just showed Dwight getting an offensive rebound, throwing an elbow at Gerald Wallace (who fell to he ground), then finishing the play with a mosnter dunk
Even better, the next clip was of Chauncey Billups making a layup in traffic.
Jameer's critics are going to be howling again...
… he’s only 3 of 11 shooting for 7 points so far, but he does have 6 assists. This is his first bad game scoring and shooting wise in a while.

Yo watching your game what happened to Dwight?
Derrick Rose will lead us back to the promise land.

serious knee injury? someone on justin.tv said season
Derrick Rose will lead us back to the promise land.
In Vinny We Trust!
Haven't heard that.
All I’ve heard is “sore.”
No, the sideline reporter said Howard's knee was just sore.
I’ll take his word for it, not that guys in the chat room who say things like “KOBE TRADED 2 THUNDER”

by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 12, 2008 11:24 PM EST reply actions
Magic down 111-110, have the ball. 12 on the shot clock, 14.5 on the game clock
So they can’t get the last shot unless they miss and get the board.
Nelson's gonna be the hero... he has 10 points in this quarter
He will hit the game-winner!

TURKOGLU!!!
hits a long 2. On the same play they ran against Portland. And he was wide the F open, too.

SVG certainly has confidence in him.
Considering he was 3/17 at that point.
Then went to 4/18 with the game on the line.
Furthermore, why was he inbounding with 2.8 seconds instead of taking his 19th shot attempt!?!??!

Tomorrow night at Utah.
Certainly won’t be easy. Let’s hope we see more of tonight’s 4th quarter, and less of the 3rd.
Final stats
Magic shoot 39 of 86 (45.3), the Suns 44 of 87 (50.6). Magic 13 of 30 from the three point line and the Suns 10 of 19. Magic 21 of 22 from the free throw line while the Suns were 15 of 19. Suns outrebounded the Magic 44-39 and had 11 turnovers to the Suns’ 13.
