Magic Won't Add Webber; Trade is More Likely

Just as I was warming up to the idea of signing Chris Webber, Brian Schmitz brings us the news that the Magic are more likely to trade for a big man. Essentially, if there were a free-agent who interested the Magic available, we would have already signed him:

"If they don't fit in with what we're doing, why go get them?" Smith said.

I just hope Otis does the smart thing and trades for someone with only a year left on his deal. We don't need a guy like Shareef Abdur-Rahim who is going to needlessly eat up our cap room for the next three seasons when we only need him for one.

Charlie Villanueva

Hey Be, could I interest you in the very affordable, very available Charlie Villanueva???

Charlie V

He's off to a poor start this year, but he could probably give us rebounding help. What's your asking price?

Webber

I have no idea if Webber is interested and would actually accept an offer from the Magic, but I'm not sure how he "[doesn't] fit in with what we're doing." Somehow Adonal Foyle fits in with what they're doing. Maybe they only want backups who have catchers mitts where their hands should be.

Re: Webber

Apparently, he was interested in the Magic, but was concerned with what sort of playing time he'd get. Maybe that put Otis off. I don't know. But he averaged 11 and 7 for Detroit last season, so he's still effective in his old age.

If Otis would rather have a guy like Abdur-Rahim, I want to know why he's running this team. Really.

Will Adonal be traded?

With his terrible minutes, the Magic may use him as bait.

Trading Adonal

I doubt there will be any takers on Adonal. He's here to stay, possibly as a 12th man.

CV

I don't think the Bucks will deal CV during the season unless they get a big in return to fill the backup 4 spot; it's more likely he's dealt in the offseason for that reason.

I think eventually the Bucks would probably be OK taking a serviceable big and a 1st rounder. But I think they'll wait a little bit before shopping him, as Yi is still a rookie and they probably want to see if CV can adapt to being a 6th man. If he accepts that role he could be very valuable, but in the longer term there aren't enough minutes at the 4 for both CV and Yi.

The Magic don't match that well in terms of possible pieces; a first rounder and Ariza is probably too much from your perspective.  But the Bucks also don't need to move CV just for the hell of it.
